—section owe PAGE TWO I AROUND THE FARMS IfN CHOWAN COUNTY By C. W. OVERMAN. Chowan County Agent * .. ... ' Atm Development Select* ThrM Agricultural Am* For CoocMirtattont The Agricultural Committee of the Albemarle Area Development Association met at Swan Quarter on Janu- ( uary 18 with representative J members from most of the Al bemarle counties attending. At tending this meeting from Cho wan County were Woodrow Lowe and C. W. Overman. The meeting was principally devot ed to a discussion of how the agricultural income of the area might be increased. Consideration was given to the possibility of establishing pro cessing plants for agricultural commodities. Marketing meth ods need to be improved in some instances. The production of new commodities was consid t.ed. The committee also dis cussed ways and means of more ' efficient production with com modities we are presently pro ducing. J Extension Specialist Robert Long suggested that we make a poll of the counties present to determine the agricultural areas affecting most of the counties relative to increased income. The poll taking was based on the agricultural income plans prepared in each county by the agricultural or extension advis-1 ory boards. Swine, beef cattle and vegetables were the three! areas in which every county had 1 indicated a plan for increased I income. These are the three * areas the committee selected to concentrate on in the next five J years. It was agreed that each Board | member would select a person as chairman of swine, a chair man of beef cattle and a chair man of vegetables in each of the ten counties. These com modity committees would meet With Extension Specialists and ' prepare the program action plan. : This meeting is scheduled to be ; held at the Ball Room of the] v Joseph Hewes Hotel Building inj Edenton on Thursday morning, i ; February 1, at 10 o’clock. When the agricultural income plan for the Albemarle area is developed, its usefulness will depend upon the efforts of the farm people and others in the j area. If we really want to in- - j crease the income on every farm, then it is necessary that every farm family work toward that goal in a systematic way. I trust' that we will make use of this combined effort because we have excellent opportunities. Joint Community Meetings Are Scheduled For February: The annual joint community meet ings in Chowan County will be held during the month of Feb ruary as usual. “Wills and In heritance Laws” will be the pro gram topic.
