(MAY 51. 1562. i outdistanced John F. f White a i little better than 4 to 1. Mrs. | Leary polled 1,380 votes; while Mr. White received only 340 votes. It was a much closer contest for Chowan County Representa i tive in the General Assembly, in j which Albert'G- By rum, incum bent, was opposed by B. Warner Evans. The vote wag 867 for j Evans and 821 for Byrum. Ev ans carried four of the six pre- I cincts, with Byrum’s greatest strength showing .up in the West Edenton precinct, where he had 320 votes against 257 for Evans. Evans’ biggest majority was in ! Center Hill precinct, where he polled 106 votes to 54 for By rum. County officials who had no opposition were J. Clarence Leary, County Commissioner-at large; Earl Goodwin, Sheriff; William privott, Judge of Re corder’s Court, and John Shack elford, Prosecuting Attorney of Recorder's Court. Congressman Herbert# Bonner also had no opposition for re election and for District Sena tors N. Elton Aydlett of Eliza beth City and J. J. (Monk) Har rington of Lewiston there was no opposition.
