Summertime ia in full swing!. Hijfiureys are filled with: car ipfds of happy vacationers and beiiche? ‘are swelled with hu manity. But, as the temperature rises church attendance falls. There seems to be a terribly con tagious disease that spreads ev- summer called, “No Wanna Gd To Church-itis.” This dread ful disease prevail? mostly in. file- summertime although it is Common in the winter also. Ifpstly church members catch it p This disease never bothers the appetite, no physician- is needed and it never lasts longer than Sunday. The attack comes on suddenly every Sunday, although file patient was fine on Satur day night. He wakes on Sunday morning happy and cheerful, but as church time draws near the attack begins with some pain ful ailment. Now this pain lasts all during the church service > r »eVa ewe •'T t SENATOR I Sam Ervin ;; I SAYS i .Washington.—The Senate Per manent Subcommittee on Inves tigations has continued its probe into the activities of Billie Sol Estes and the Department of Agriculture. The value of this Congressional hearing has been demonstrated already in that regulations have been tightened up so that this sort of conduct concerning allotments should not be repeated again. All of the Vvidence taken before the com mittee, of which I am a mem ber, indicates that everything which has happened has been the result primarily of a bad set of regulations. Regulations like laws improve with experience At the time the Estes case de veloped the power to pass on ai lOTrtftdts * v/as 4 Vested In County ASC committees at the -local level . with- no review by the Pepartment of Agriculture in Washington. I understand| that fire department has taken steps through new regulations to cor rect this situation. j. „jj j 1 Withholding Tax—The Senate finance Committee last week foted 10-5 to delete the; provi sion in the Tax Revision Bill relating to the withholding of income taxes on interest and dividends. Air Lihes Strike—lt now ap pears that legislation will be ne cessary to end the strike which Has grounded planes Os the Eastern Air Lines. This strike i£.-staged, by 575 members oft the flight Engineers Union. , It has filled about 17,500 other ‘em ployees of the Eastern Air Lines arid inconvenienced the traveling public beyond measure. The strike is jurisdictional in nature rod apparently arises out of the demand of the Flight Engineers Union that the third job in 1 the fiiree-man crew of the big jet planes should be controlled by *<t >•£*+'■*.<*%. .i .it iifiiii t? • » •Me ,„■' ff»» *" w * *r° nintf SWI »:i-^-ti.l V IQ. * ifPnilMMfft* EKMHgBUHHMMHfIfigjH ll - \ , faEi-,.- ; ' $5 vft%lMiir*iqKrifc ■A. But after the ser vice he suddenly make a turn for the good and the attack is over . . . until next Sunday. This disease will eventually bring more pain than leprosy and the final outcome is terrible. At the great judgment all these people will be sent' to a place where they will never be wor ried with going to church again. Dear reader, don’t you be tak en in by this horrible disease this summer. Don’t you prove to be a wintertime "Christian only, because in reality there is no such thing. Either we live for Christ all year-around or we nevtr truly do. There is no such thing as a part-time Chris tian. Certanly God wants you to take a peaceful vacation. But when you do take Him with you. Find, a church of your choice and worship on your trip. Don’t take God from His throne and let Mr. Vacation reign instead. it rathei; than by the Pilots Union. Legislation' is justified for two reasons. First, because the public and employees and the families of employees ought not to suffer irreparable dam jages as a result of what is es sentially a fight between two unions. Contests between two unions for the right to represent employees engaged in a common enterprise ought to be settled by the votes of such employees— not by jurisdictional strikes. | Jurisdictional strikes ought to be outlawed in transportation industries as they have been in Mother activities. Second, the air lines ■ are in the real sense pub lic utilities operating under public franchises. The Senate Committee on Commerce and the Senate Committee on Labor and Public Welfare are planning leg islation to deal with the situa tion. I expect to support whal ! ever legislative proposal seems best, t ■ 4 i t Appropriations Dispute The Senate-House feud' over protocol has blocked all passage of ap propriation bills up to now. Last Friday a compromise pro posal to work out differences that have arisen between the two Appropriations Commit tees failed to bring agreement of the two bodies. It is under stood that the conferees will meet again this week to attempt to iron out a disagreement in order to permit billions of dol lars necessary for government operations to be approved by Congress. The controversy which arose this session is r.n ext-emely unfortunate matter. Up to .now custom has dictated that appropriation bills should originate in the House but that the chairmanship of these meet ings should be presided over by the senior committee Senator.
