ConductedAt Wilson Four Chowan County firemen 1 attended a fire fighting short | course which was held in Wil- j I son Friday and Saturday, July ' 27 and 28. The course was pre sented by the Eastern Carolina ' Firemen’s Association and Res- ( cue College in oooperation with I the Wilson Industrial Education Center and the City of Wilson Fire Department. Those attending from Chowan County were Troy Toppin, G. C. Beamon and Fred White, Jr., cfj the Center Hill-Cross Roads! I Fire Department and Fire Chief 1 W. J. Yates of the Edenton Fire Department. Instructors in the course were: Calvin Beck of the Cary Fire Department, Jimmie Davis of the Wilson Fire Department. Buddy Hall of the Wallace Fire De- | partment, Elvvood Inscoe of the j N. C. Department of Insurance, George Kiniberlin of the States ville Fire Department, J. A. Let zing of the Durham Fire Depart ment, David Lee of the N. C. Department of Insurance. As county winners, I Judy Evans and Johnny Win-lj borne represented Chowan Coun- I ty in the state health pageant I on Thursday night. Johnn> 1 1 Winborne also served on the j ] “Clover Leaf” staff, a daily pub- j lication put out by 4-H Club | members during 4-H Club Week, j State officers were elected j Friday afternoon. Lean Evans j cast Chowan County’s five elec toral votes. Wilson W. Lowery, j Jones county, was elected State 4-H Club president and Nancy Coles Basnight. Dare County,! was elected State 4-H CluTi sec-! retary. Both of these outstand- j ing 4-H'ers are from the Eastern j District. Also attending 4-H Club Week 1 as delegates from Chowan Coun-: ty were Richard White and Gene Harrell.
