(Frankly Speaking j By FRANK ROBERTS I Little Bit of Everything: A new doctor, a new dentist and a new lawyer in town. All be ‘ ginning their practices at about the same time. The latter, of course, is everybody’s good friend, Jim Earnhardt, Jr., and our congratulations on the ap pointment given him by Eden ton. Producer-Director Le- Roy’s screen version of “Gypsy”, will be presented at the Radio City Music Hall in New York and that will be Mr. Leßoy’s 19th movie to open at that world-famous showplace. The North Carolina Baptist! State Convention is going on i record as being in favor of the ' abolishment of capital punish ment. That’s very good, and very important news. The L. A. Dodgers’ strikeout artist, Sandy Koufax, is presi dent of a broadcasting company „ which will begin operating a station in southern California early in January. In addition! to being president, Koufax will also have my job ... as pro gram director. I think he’ll find pitching an easier task. Had an interesting talk with I Heywood Ziegler of the Z Bar Z, Ranch, highway 17, south. While he was in New York City a few weeks ago, he had the oppor tunity of talking to Eddie Fisher, orchestra leader Vincent Lopez, and a fellow by the name of Otto Schmidt, who manages and plays saxophone for Peter Duchin. Heywood was also tell ing me of some of the horses on his ranch, of which he is justly proud. One horse is a direct ancestor of King Largo. King Largo was owned by Diamond Jim Brady, and was imported from England before the turn of the century. For winning the world series, each individual Yankee player will get about $12,000. Each in dividual Giant will receive about SB,OOO, which is all right, too. Ralph Terry, by the way, was named the outstanding player of the world series by Sport Maga- and for that, he’ll get a Corvette, in addition to every thing else. Speaking of series players, Giant shortstop Jose Pagan was purchased for a pal try SSOO, and the Giants' even got SSO of that back, when Pa gan was fined for lack of inter est early in the season. Since then he’s bounced back to be come what many refer to as the best shortstop in the league. Some more of those Federal Trade Commission crackdowns are under way, similar to the ones I wrote about a couple months ago. A few might be of interest to you. Remco and Louis Marx, well known toy manufacturers have received FTC reprimands for mis-representations. A "Blue and Grey Battle Set,” evidently wasn’t all it was cracked up to be ... a radio craft kit-wouldn’t send out radio signals as adver tised and an Electro Chemistry Science Kit didn’t have every thing it was supposed to. So, when you’re Christmas shopping for youngsters in your family, buy carefully. The FTC also got after the Hadacol people. Seems they were making false thera peutic claims for their “New Super Hadacol,” liqued and capsules. Here’s a for-your-information item: 153 descendants of the men who mutinied against Cap tain Bligh in 1789 (the famous “Mutiny on the Bounty”) are still living on Pitcairn Island. Parkin Christian, great, great grandson of Fletcher Christian, the officer who led the famous mutiny, heads the number of descendants who make their present-day home on Pitcairn. There also are three Fletcher Christians there, as well as great, great, great grandchildren of the other mutineers. Closing Thought: The covet ous man never has money; the prodigal will have none shortly. HARVEST HOME DAY AT KADESH CHURCH SUNDAY Harvest Home Day will be ob served at Kadesh A. M. E. Zion Church Sunday, October 28. The Rev. W. H. Trotman, pas dr of Peters Chapel Baptist Church, Merry Hill, will preach at 2:30. Rev. Riddick, pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cole rain, will preach at 3:15 and at 7 o’clock the Rev. F. H. La- Gar.de, pastor of Providence Bap tist Church, will preach. THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON.
