I—SECTION ONE PAGE TWO > BROAD STREET BULLETIN By KATE Today it’s almost like spring tvnd what a different perspective it gives on such a beautiful day, especially after such a stormy yesteiday. Such is the pattern of life with changes ant atti tudes. <An interesting three days we liad in Chapel Hill last week Extending the North Carolina lfress Association institute. We listened to many well-informed speakers, who spoke on the various important problems Which make up recent news ifcudlines. It was a privilege to Ik ir these people, even though u lot of the subject matter was over my head. We met these people and many old friends Whom we see just when we go to these meetings. Seems as though the same problems are e very where. ■j Our dog Spike was sure glad j to see us come home. Most al ways, when we are planning to gf> away, he acts like he knows it and pouts ahead of time— t hen when we come home, he all, but talks to us. He is a very I vital part of our family—and he! apparently knows it. It’s interesting to watch people who have been chain smokers j for a long time, but who arc now trying to stop smoking al- ' together. My prediction is that there’ll be a lot of weight gain ing— ,so at least the clothing stores will profit. Men! According to the In siders Newsletter, compulsive buying is a sign of mental dis turbance, a kind or irritation and anger toward their hus bands— an attempt to compen sate for the feeling of being re jected or unloved. Golly! what a good excuse! v There’s nothing friendlier than the invitation to coffee. 1 needn’t be an afternoon party with china and silver service. A relaxing, informal gathering in mid-morning, when a mother can enjoy her second cup of coffee is the warmest way to entertain new friends or intro duce new ones to neighbors. And, instead of the usual smoke, try your favorite coffee cake or [ muffin. (Watch the waist line). Did You Know Thai— A few drops of black paint, added to your white paint, will keep the painted surface gleam ing white iastead of turning I yellow. Rubbing alcohol squirted on a ! washcloth and rubbed on the hair will remove some of the excess oil. A little glycerine in your win dow washing water will keep your windows sparkling inside and out. A salute to one of the most courteous and helpful people, the girl who runs the elevator at Belk-Tyler’s. She is a very pleasant person and certainly an asset to Belk’s. t ree Seedlings Still Available The North Carolina Division of Forestry recently announced that there is still a reasonable supply of most species of tree seedlings available for distribu tion. If anyone is anticipating planting seedlings this spring, they are still available provided the applications are sent in the near future.
