Bunch, Chairman of the Albemarle Soil and Water Con servation District has announced that the District has entered the 18th Annual Goodyear competi tion to select the nation's 52 top conservation districts. Activities of the District will be weighed against the perform ance of other districts in the state in determining the out standing district in the annual event sponsored by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Aaron, Ohio. Soil Conservation efforts from Jifhuary 1, 1964 through Decem bej 31, 1964 will be considered ini the competition and the key agricultural leaders will serve t f 1 ,judges to select the state win ners. The grand award for the 52 i districts selected nationally will be an expense paid trip to, Arizona in December, 1965 for one member of the district gov erning body and the outstand-j injsj farmer cooperator in each winning district. Edenton firemen will hold their monthly dinner meeting tonight (Thursdav) at 7 o'clock at the fire station. Edenlon Rotary Club will meet this (Thursday) afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Parish House. Edenton Band Parents will meet Monday night, February 10 at 7:30 o'clock in the band room. Business and Professional Wo men's Club will hold annual Bosses' Night Thursday night, February 20 at 7 o'clock at the Center Hill Community Build ing. William H. The Albemarle 'District, con sisting of Chowan, Perquimans Pasquotank, Camden, and Cur rituck counties, won first place iin the contest in 1958, the firsl year it was started. Mr. Bunch and Fahey Byrum, the outstand ing cooperator in the District that year, were guests of Good year on an expense-paid trip tc their farm in Arizona. The Dis trict won second place in 1930, and first place again in 1961. George Winslow, District super visor from the Perquimans Unit of the Albemarle District and Warner Madre, the outstanding cooperator, were the guests on the Goodyear trip in 1961. The Albemarle District is not eligible to win first place again until 1966, however, by entering the contest each year we will receive recognition for outstand ing accomplishments. Mr. Bunch said the District’s outstanding cooperator will be selected from about 1600 farm operators enroll ed in the Albemarle District Pro gram. Monday night at 7 o'clock at the Edenton Restaurant. Fire destroyed the home of H. A. Brickhouse in the Gum Pond section. It was the fifth house Mr. Brickhouse lost, four being burned and one when a tree fell on a house.
