Many people want to continue <
working after they reach retire- ;
ment age. According to leen E.
Wilson, Manager of the Green
ville Social Security Office, par
tial payment of social security i
benefits is possible for some of
these workers, depending on <
their earnings.
If your earnings do not exceed 1
SI2OO for the year, you can get |
all your social security checks.
Even if your earnings are con- ;
siderably more than SI2OO you •
may still be eligible for some '
social security benefits. If you
earn between SI2OO and SI7OO, 1
. only $1 in benefits will be with
s held for each $2 you earn over
X, SI2OO. An additional $1 in bene- '
fits is withheld for each $1 of :
earnings over SI7OO. No mat- '
ter how much you earn in a .
year, you will get your social’
security check for any month in 1
which you neither earn over SIOO '

Let’s take James, for exam
ple, who is over 65 and works ,
and earns S2OOO per year. His
monthly social security benefit
is SB4; therefore, if his total
earnings were SI2OO or less in
the year, he could be paid a to
i tal of SIOOB social security.
Since he is continuing full time
work, he can get $458 in social
security benefits for the year.
For the first SI7OO he earns.
$250 in social security benefits
is withheld (SI7OO minus SI2OO
equals $500; % of SSOO is $250);
for earnings over SI7OO, S3OO is
withheld (S2OOO minus SI7OO is
$300). Total benefits, SIOOB, less
sssso equals 458 payable to
James for the year.

SI On Respect For

"Rebuke not an elder, but en

One of the best friends I have
is Mr. L. W. Askew of Conway;
N. C. He is approximately sixty
three years older than I, yet we
can spend hours talking as if
we were the same age. He does
not realize it but he has taught
me a great lesson in life. He
has taught me to realize that
there is much to be learned from
the elderly generation. Young
i people might sometimes have the
false idea that elderly people
have run their course in life and
all they have to say about the
present / day situation is old
fashioned. But I believe God has
much wisdom that He wishes to
pass on to the younger genera
tion through the lips of our
elders.

In two hours the over 890 per

that We should not- rebuke our|
