ten by Heywood Ziegler, Jr. As
sheer poetry, I think you will
agree with me, and 1 think you
will like them, as I did. Here
they are:
If only I were a little boy
again; every dawn brought
forth so many happy dreams.
A knight in shining armor, a
buccaneer on some tropic
shore. Cwes were so very
■ few, a soda maybe some
where along the way, then
back to the business of play.
Board the galleon, raid the
gold, sail away, then the
awaited call to supper. Day
was done, but dreams were
near and rest for another

loving favor rather than silver
and gold/' (Proverbs 22:1).
A strange fairy tale goes like'
( this: A shepherd boy in the'
Alps, while minding his sheep,,
saw a strange, flower at his feet.j
f He picked it up and to his sur-|
prise a door opened in the side'
of the hill. He went in and
found a cave piled with precious j
jewels. In the center of the
cave sat a gnome, who said,
“Take what you wish, but don’t
lorget the best!” The boy drop
ped his flower and loaded his
arms with jewels, then he went
out. As he left he heard the
voice again, “Don’t forget the
bast!” After he came to the
open air the boy remembered

those golden dawns have
passed. Lines have replaced
the sparkling gleam, cares of
another world havfe darkened
the dreams from a flame to a
flicker. The far-away isles
have become a small domain
of only a small room filled
k with just the burden of
keeping what’s left alive.
Soon all will be past, there
awaits only the grave, the
hereafter. Maybe there the
golden dreams will be again,
there only the care of happi
ness will await. Oh, to be
back a little boy again!

judgment. We adopt the atti
tude that our candidate can do
no wrong and all his opponents,
are SOB’s. The actual fact of,
the matter is, political candi
dates are just people, like me
and you. So remember, the man
you didn’t vote for may be a
man you’d like to call a friend—
if you knew him better.

cently acquired his BS degree
in Physical Education from the
Elizabeth City State College at
Elizabeth City. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. William Madrey
of Edenton. He plans a career
in teaching.

Mrs. Lillie Outlaw
Dies In Hospital
Mrs. Lillie Harrell Outlaw of
'ColeVain, 78, died Saturday
morning in Bertie Memorial Hos
pital.
A native of Bertie County, she
•was the wife of Walter B. Out
law and a member of Bethany
Baptist Church where she taught
the Adult Women’s Class for 40
years. She was a former school
teacher.
She is survived by two sons,
Ralph W. Outlaw of Edenton and
Dee Britton Outlaw of Colerain;
a brother, N. P. Harrell of More
head City; and a grandchild.
A funeral service was held
Monday afternoon in Bethany
Baptist Church by the Rev. Hen
ry Huggins. Burial was in Hill
crest Cemetery in Colerain.
