'Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom." | (Matthew 27:M)-51.)J In the temple in Jerusalem was a room called the “Holy of Holies’’ or the “holiest.of all”.' To the Jews of long ago the presence of God Himself was supposed to be in that room. No one was allowed to enter except the high priest who could enter once each year with the blood of atonement which he sprinkled “upon, and before the mercy seat seven times” (Lev. 16:14). He used the blood of a bull .'which was supposed to atone for ( I *tyhe sins of men. Covering this / room was a huge veil, this was " to prevent people from seeing the inside of the holy room. | We are told in the 27th chap ter of Matthew that when Jesus, died on the cross the veil cover- 1 ing the “holy of holies” was split wide open. We receive the impression from the Bible that this miracle occurred the very j instant Jesus died. So what does this mean? This was a sign from God showing that be cause of the death of Christ man can meet God. No longer do we have to be shut off from God, no Taylor Theatre Edenton, N.
