Planted Notices Mailed
Watch Time Limit
Notices of planted acreage
were mailed to all Ohowan
farmers Friday, June 26. Some
of these notices require action
within a time limit. In order
for the different agricultural pro
grams to operate efficiently,
'TIME LIMITS” are necessary.
We urge all farmers to not let
the time as stated on the no
tice to elapse without contacting
this office.
If remeasurement is desired on
cotton, peanuts or deficient di
verted acreage, a request will
have to be filed within 15 days
from date of notice. On tobacco
a request must be made within
7 days from date of notice. The
charge for remeasurement is
SI.OO per acre as measured
(with an SB.OO minimum).
Charges for checking adjust
ment of acreage in excess of al
lotment is $5.00 plus SI.OO for
each additional place on the
farm that excess acreage is dis
posed of. This amount also ap
plies to adjustment of deficient
diverted acreage in the case of
Feed Grain Farms.
Agricultural Conservation
Program
Requests for Federal Cost-
Share are being accepted in the
county office for 1964 ACP prac
tices. The County ASC Com
mittee would like to see some
type of conservation practice
carried out on every farm in
the county.
1964 Cotton Penalty Rate
Announced
The parity price for upland
cotton as announced on May 28, 1
1964 was $40.75 cents per pound.
This was the price held in de-'
termining the penalty rate for
excess cotton produced in 1964. |
The penalty rate thus establish-1
ed for 1964 crop excess upland
cotton is 20.4 cents per pound.
Reminders
1. Rye planted on diverted 1
acreage cannot be harvested if!
diversion payment is received.
2. Drying equipment and bin
loans are available through the
County ASCS Office. Loans can
be made for 85% of the actual
cost. Any farmer interested in
this type of equipment should
contact the ASCS office for
further information.

asked some of the youngsters to
name some beautiful or interest

tall redwood trees, another piped

mountains. Then Scott, Jr., had

Had an interesting talk with
the charming Mrs. Eleanor Pow
ell regarding her life in Ger
many, where her husband had
been stationed. The interview,
was heard a couple Saturdays
ago and her most surprising
answer was when she said that
the great majority of Germans
didn’t'like the Americans. Elea
nor said life was on the rugged
side. In her small town in |
Germany they lived in one of
the better apartments, but still—
the kitchen, living and dining
quarters were all in one room.
And they had to share the bath
room facilities with 12 other 1
families. Cost? SSO per month. I
There’s one young lady who
probably has a deeper apprecia
tion of her country than many
others of us.
WCDJ’s Jane Holmes is taking
a summer hiatus from the air
waves, and spending her time
at the wonderful Carolinian at
Nags Head as a hostess. She’s
aheady had the pleasure of
talking to two well-known
North Carolinians Secretary of
Commerce Luther Hodges and
Actor Sidney Blackmer.
Heaviest contributions during
the last politioal campaigns, with
contributions of over S3OO, were
Shelton Moore for Dr. I. Beverly
Lake and Gilliam Wood for
Richardson Preyer.
The Jaycettes’ collections for
the Red Cross proved quite
fruitful. The gals hustled up
several hundred dollars for the
, cause. One individual contribu
tor donated SSO.
Had a lot of fun at the auc
tion at the Skinnersvville Civic

items to auction off. Merchants
in the area were most generous.
After three hours or so of auc
tioneering, I began to talk like

ful and warm group of people.
Every now and then I like to
pay a bit of tribute to some of
j our merchants and this time hats

I run the many service stations in
our area. This gang is thor
ough in their work friendly
and courteous. The many tour

good impression.
