GO AND TEACH'
Please turn to Mark 16, verses
15 through 19. We see tissues
tellingJthem to- go and teach, .i
Who was He talking to? To the
eleven? Not only them but to
you and me. You will gay “I
am no preacher; ! am not per
fect; I make mistakes.” Who
doesn’t? If every one would
wait Up til he is perfect; who
would-be saved? If we repent
of our' sins and ask Jesus to
save us, He will. We must go
then and point other people to
Christ. Where should I go?
Where souls are lost —in homes,
on street corners, on the job,
door to door and to Your
i next door neighbor could be lost
and headed for h£ll. ft is our
job as ‘ Christians to point them
to Christ. Jesus wants a work
ing Christian who will get out
and win souls. There are more
souls shved in the homes and on
the streets than there are in the
church.' Christ went all 'dyer
preaching the Gospel. Ate we
any better than Jesus? If you
haven’t accepted jHim as your
Saviour, won’t you do it today?
Are you a lazy or a working
Christian? Jesus said: “Go ye
into all the world, and preach
the Gospel to every creature.”
—Mark' 16:15.

GOD WITH US
International Sunday School
Lesson for December 20, 1964
Memory Selection: “You shall
call his name Jesus, for he will
save his people from their sins.”
(Matthew 1:21).
Lesson Text: Matthew 1.
With our lesson today we be
fiin a new scries of studies, the
aim of which is to help adults
grow in their understanding of
,the significance of Jesus’ birth.
Christmas Sunday is certainly!
an appropriate time to begin j
this undertaking.
The birth of Jesus Christ was
the great turning point in hu
man history, and through it, j
mankind gets a glimpse of thei
Glory of God and the everlasting!
life.
Israel had long been over-run i
by one conquering nation after •
another. Oppressed and weary j
of foreign domination, it was the
great hope of the people of Israel
that a Messiah—a deliverer—
would be born on earth, of the ;
line of David, who would lead
Israel to power, and who would
rule all the nations of the earth.
I
Matthew was aware of the]
people’s expectations of a ruler
descended from a long line of
Kings. He was also firmly con-,
vinced that Jesus was the Mes-;
siah the nation and the world
was waiting for. He therefore
set about establishing Jesus’
genealogy down through Abra-j
ham, through David and the 1
kings of Judah. Matthew made
it plain, however, that Joseph
was not the actual father of
Jesus. Indeed, in this connection, 1
it is interesting to note that
Jesus, throughout his ministry, I
never called any man “father”.!
He referred only to God as his
Father.

Having established Jesus’ gen
ealogical background, Matthew
had to overcome the popular con
ception of what the Messiah
would be. Instead of being a
military figure, the Messiah Mat
thew served was a serving,
teaching, loving Saviour who
called men into a kingdom not
of this earth—the kingdom of
God. Therefore, mere genealogy
could not account for Jesus.
Only a miracle could account for
the stupendous advent of Jesus
Christ. And that miracle was
the Immaculate Conception. And
it is noteworthy that every great
j creed of both evangelical and
j Catholic Christianity affirms this
doctrine.
In the birth of Jesus God has
made common cause with men.
jHe reached out and took our
] burdens on himself, and shared
our sorrows, in order that we,
|in turn, might take upon our
i selves some of his nature and
! share in his jobs and his glory,
j He placed Divinity among us,
not in circumstances of pomp’
and splendor, but humbly, and
• in the plainest of surroundings.
• And he did it through the fami
ly relationship, thereby setting
the seal of his approval on the
( concept of family life and home.
1 “God with us” was what hap
pened the night of Jesus’ birth.
