PAGE EIGHT r—SECTION ONE Broad Street Bulletin By KATE There’s nothing better for the good of the soul Than to sit by the creek with a long cane pole And even though the fish don’t bite You’ve peace of mind and your troubles seem slight. Believe it or not, this reci pe really works. Sometime when you’re worried or frus trated, go fishing . . . I’ll guarantee it to be a cure. * * * Another good cure for • restlessness is to work in the yard or plant a garden and then hope. To see things grow which you planted yourself, is ample reward. * * * By the way, if you missed seeing the beautiful azaleas blooming around Rocky Hock Church this spring, you missed a pretty picture. In fact the whole community of Rocky Hock shows well cared for homes and beauti ful farm lands and proud people. * * * This widow fished for fish and she caught a big one! Mrs. Anne Jenkins took time out from making other wo men pretty this weekend, for a deep sea fishing trip with relatives and friends in the Cape Charles area and really Hooked a big one. Ann hook e'd a Drum weighing 56 1 pounds and she lost several ■ pounds and gained a few praises bringing him in. However, Anne explains that it took two men with grap pling hooks to get the fish aboard, after she made an attempt to fly overboard af ter it. This Drum was the largest fish brought in the Cape Charles Marina over the weekend and a Citation was given the owner of the cruiser Blackhawk, Mr. Jim my Marshall. By the way, the Drum got its name from the sounds they make when there are large schools found ; in deep water. * * * According to a late report on the newest styles for wo men, the Shift dress and the skimmer have had their gbason in the sun and now it's the Courreges look as the summer “uniform” of the smart set double-breasted middy top, very short skirt, slightly flared and boots, plain or open toes and cut outs at the top. Seems to me that this would separate the young gals from the old gals. * * * If you have a lot of cor respondence, it seems that according to Amy Vander bilt, you can streamline your letters by omitting the salu tation and if the letter paper has your initials or name on it, your informals can go unsigned . . . this the latest mode in letter writing. * « * The Grapefruit Diet is really the rage these days and it is said that in the large cities that waitresses ARTHRITIS-RHEUMATISM Do claims and double talk make you doubt you can get any relief from arthritic and rheumatic pains? Seems to me that the uni form time legislation intro duced in both houses of Con gress to end clock confusion is long overdue! * * * Cold Oven Pound Cake Here's a recipe for a de licious Pound Cake sent to me by the way of Mrs. Jean Hollar and Mrs. Louise Er vin. cups of plain flour, 3 cups sugar, 2 sticks oleomar garine, x k cup Crisco, 1 cup sweet milk, 5 eggs, x k tsp. vanilla, 1 tsp. lemon extract. Start baking in a cold oven and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 340 degrees. I do appreciate these reci pes so much . . . thanks Louise and Jean! * * * How are you coming along with your Spring Cleaning? Personally, I get diverted with fishin’ an’ stuff I’m afraid spring houseclean ing might last on into the summer. Anyhow, I’m try ing all the short cuts, so if any of you know a few, please send them to me. Meanwhile, here are a few of my own: Use net bags from pota toes, oranges, etc., to store things in, such as brushes, laundered mops, etc., so that the air can reach them. Just read too late that if you color your grass seed with bluing before planting it, the birds won’t bother it as they don’t like the color blue. Make your own shoe rack. Nail a metal curtain rod on the back of your closet door. Hang shoes by the heels over this rack. A large paper plate glued to the bottom of the paint can, catches drips and provides a resting place for brushes. Soften hardened glue by adding a few drops of vine gar.
