Roundup
The American people
should not be forced to tol
erate such breaches of the
public interest as the recent
transit bus strike ill New
York City. Some way should
be quickly found to mediate
or resolve these massive traf
fic impasses that would be
acceptable to all concerned.
There was a time in the
growth of this country when
the people had to take sum
| mary action to alleviate in
tolerable situations, but we
have come a long way since
the days of vigilantes and in
efficient law enforcement,
and leave such problems to
the law and the courts. In
my opinion, the weak link in
the whole business has been
the law and the courts;
stronger action against the
strikers and the unions
should have been taken. We
should not be forced to tol
erate the gross and flagrant
crime against the people of
New York that we have just
been witnessing.

THE CHOWAN HERALD
tween my canine friends and
me. But when one has been
viciously attacked at one
time by man’s best friend,
and a couple of neighborhood
mongrels have taken up resi
dence under my house, and
bay at the moon, outside my
window, even on dark nights,
then what love I once bore
the canine tribe is stretched
a wee bit- thin.
WEATHER REPORT —As I
write this, it is a bone-chill
ing (for me) thirty-five de
grees outside and about ten
degrees ljigher than when I
first looked at my thermom
eter. It seems that we are
in the grip of Winter’s first
cold onslaught. I have a
four-foot picture of an Ha
waiian scene, depicting a
blue lagoon, tropical skies
and palm trees, on my wall.
Every once in a while I
glance at it and draw a wist
ful sigh, and a vicarious
warmth of zephyr-like, breez
es and balmy airs flow over
me. You see, as the song
writer said, I have my love
to keep me warm.
