Do you love your neighbor? Here are a few common sins that are in our churches today. 1. I can teach better than he can. 2. Criticize the preacher, deacons and Sunday School teachers instead of backing them up. 3. If a brother faills in trouble, r.o we help him, or pass him by? 4. I knew his religion couldn’t last. 6. If a person sins, do wo A help him Or do we say good riddance? The Christian should help one another, not talk about one another. These sins are bad but y how many of us Christians ’ are guilty of them? We say we lrve God who we can’t see hut hate a brother or sister who we can see. Then how can we love God? Let us ask C >d to forgive us of this sin and to let the love of God flow in us. L:t us love the brothers as ( Prist Jesus loves us end •gave Himself for us. Do you love your brother? Lesson for Febf uary 26 Memory Selection. “He that is faithful in that whii'h is least is faithful also in much.”—Luke 16-17. Lesson Text: Luke 16-17. During the course of our lesson today we will ponder the innate truth of our Memory Selection, and ap ply its meaning as a measur ing stick of our inner selves and its effect on the life we lead. What it means is that if a man is faithful in little things, he is increasing his capacity for noteworthy per formance in larger services, thereby reaping spiritual blessings. And it was this facet of character that re ceived much attention in the teachings of Christ. Throughout the Bible there are many parables stressing the necessity for good stewardship Os things material, and in these par ables Jesus always stressed the degree of faithfu’ness and service a servant owed to' his master. This is not to say that Jesus approved of slavery;' on the contrary, He demon strated that each human «be* ing was an important en tity all his own, and as such, was deserving of the utmost consideration. But Jesus did believe in a person’s obliga tions, and in honoring those commitments to the nth de gree, even at great personal sacrifice. Here was an op portunity fur self-discipline, and for service. It was a popular bidief among the Pharisees that if a man sinned, he was pun ished; conversely, if a man led a good life, he was re ; warded with wealth and ■prosperity. And this belief, i even today, still exists to a I great extent. 1 Likewise, the same danger faces us today that faced thb peoples of Biblical times. And like Franken stein pride in them can . lead us to the place where, instead of our possessing them, they possess us! This is where our sense of responsibility and good stew ardship steps into the pic ture. For it is how a man uses his material blessings that will indicate the depth (or shallowness) of his character. If ho uses iiis wealth and his abilities to good pur pose. Ik* will leave the world a little better place for his having been, in it. If he misuses them, however, they will he squandered, as was the inheritance of the prodi gal son .and ho -himself— will have left no mark in the world---certainly none that is noteworthy. Nor will he have invested in spiritual blessings for him self— those blessings which endure long after material things are gone and for gotten. The Christian ideal is to consecrate anything and everything to God. Whether it is money or acts of ser vice is immaterial. What we own .and That of which we are capable these are gifts of God, and should be for His purposes. What We have to offer Christ may seem small and insignificant to us— especi ally if we are not too well endowed with worldly goods. But what we have should be offered gladly and unstintingly. Certainly the attitude with which our services are offered i$ of the utmost importance. There should be a motivat ing sense of duty, by all means, but there should be also a spontaneous and gen erous spirit, too. What kind of stewards are we? It happened on ike night after Johnny lnmr/ht a new guitar and us joined in a family hootenanny. When he canid to live with us over a year ago, Sam didn't even talk. Raised in si sub-standard home, he was a mighty unhappy little boy with problems galore. He didn't like us at first—he wasn't glad to be ; with us. But, gradually, as the months wore on, he began to trust, us and believe in our love. ; That night as the family sang together—Sam , suddenly began to sing with us. The miracle had occurred. He was now one of the family. You see, the Church had taught us that the love of God accepts us completely and uncon ditional!)-. We had learned that we could love and accept Sam in the same way. In becoming a part of God’s family, we had discovered how to create a new family of our own. CojyiT.jht 1567 Ke\s*.fr Advertising Service. Tnc, Strasburg. Va. i. Ifiitiu. • t. isi.rucliuL » «...
