PAGE FOUTEEN Are te ß??oSd News From Merry Hill RALEIGH —Citations for outstanding achievement for the 1966-67 academic year were awarded to ap proximately 100 students at North Carolina State University's 78th annual commencement on Satur day. Special awards given to students for scholarship and leadership, in addition to Army and Air Force awards and others which were previously announc ed. are as follows: School of Engineering: David Brott of Edenton. THE Roundup Wilborne Harrell My grandfather had these things by which he ordered his life: The Bible, The Progressive Farmer, The Biblical Recorder and Turner’s Almanac. And his faith in the latter publica tion was just as strong as any of the others. Now, my confidence in the al manac is much, much smaller than a mustard seed; but here comes a lady whose convictions are unshakable in the tenets propounded by said Turner and others. And she said, quoting the almanac, that there" would be no real warm weather until mid- July. If there ever was a dire prediction, this is it; and, frankly, considering Glenwood Gardens Home For Sale! This is a three bed room, Gold Medallion home, located in an area of beautifully blooming dogwood. Drive out and take a look and you’ll not only like the location but the floor plan, in cluding two ceramic baths and carport. Miss Beckie Bunch of the way the weather is go ing, it somewhat shakes my lack of faith in al manacs. Something new has been added—the feminine touch to The Chowan Herald. Jane Weikel has joined the Herald’s staff, and she has brought with her that in definable something that always attends the pres ence of a woman. The lusty speech of the em ployes has in great mea sure been curtailed, and manners and courtesies that have almost been for gotten have been brought out and used. A woman’s itch to clean and straight en up may be observed in counters and whatnot emerging out of disorder into respectability. And the telephones have no doubt been surprised that a lilt has been added to the gruffness and abrupt ness of the male voice. Now I’m waiting for the blow-up when she invades the sanctity of ye editor’s desk and attempts to bring order out of the organized confusion thereon. Or at tempts to hang chintz cur tains on the windows. Yep, has been added all this and Jane, too. CO. COMMISSIONERS WILL MEET MONDAY Chowan County commis sioners will meet at 9 A. M.
