Spruill Alphonso H. (Jody) Dail, Jr., has joined the Eden ton Police Department af ter serving three years with the Hertford Police Department. He is a member of the N. C. Law Enforcement As sociation and has complet ed the 120-hour Basic Po lice School which was held at the College of the Albe marle, April 3-21. Dail, 28, was associated with Landing Supply Com pany before becoming a law enforcement officer. A native of Perquimans County, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso Dail, Sr., of Tyner. Goodwin, Jr., USNR, son at Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Goodwin of 214 East Eden Street, Eden ton, participated in an am phibious raid along the coast of South Vietnam aboard the dock landing ship USS Point Defiance. During the raid, called “Operation Beaver Cage,” his ship, the assault ships USS Okinawa and USS Bayfield landed U. S. Ma rines for a search and de stroy mission south of Da Nang. Death came to Clarence Urvin Spruill, 71, Freemas on Street, Thursday at Chowan Hospital. A native of Chowan County, Mr. Spruill had been employed by the E&W Department of Eden ton for 31 years. He was a son of the late Richard and Sally S. Spruill. He was a widower of Clara Margaret Spruill. Surviving is one son, Stanley E. Spruill of Win fall; a daughter, Mrs. Mar garet Patterson of Eden ton; one brother, Jesse Spruill of Edenton; and two grandchildren. He was a member of Edenton Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Williford Funeral Home with Rev. R. N. Carroll and Rev. Hubert Morris in charge. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. J. E. Spruill Gets Promotion SAIGON, VIETNAM—Jo seph E. Spruill, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Spruill, Route 2, Edenton, N. C., was promoted to Army Specialist Four May 5 in Vietnam, where he is serving with the 552nd Transportation Company. He is a 1964 graduate of Perquimans County Union High School in Winfall, N. C.
