i—A PAGE TWO BROAD STREET jBULLETIN i Kate •* ‘ V i- 'lB ** The kitchen’s a romantic place For that’s where you’ll find love, In everything she cooks and bakes It’s you she’s thinking of. Coming home on a chilly evening, To a Idtchen cozy and warm, With supper cooking on the stove Home has a special charm. Why is it that most of the family will go straight to the kitchen when they come home? I suppose it’s as it was long ago the kitchen is almost always the center of activity, with food being first and fore most in family life. Here in the kitchen most of us find not only food for the body, but food for thought, too. And after all, what is more romantic than love in a kitchen? 1 had a pleasant surprise this past week in a very unusual gift, brought to me by a very enterprising little girl, Amanda Bunch of Route 1. It is a sort of pumpkin, grown in the shape of a Mexican hat. What makes it special is that it was grown by Am anda on her father’s farm. I don’t know just how this shape of pumpkin came about, but it looks almost as if it was manufactured instead of grown from a seed. Amanda tells me that if I keep it in a well ventilated place, it will dry out, but will keep it shape and make a lovely center piece for fall. Thanks again, Amanda! I’ve got the “Back-to- School” blues and it’s not because I’m going to school, either. It’s because when it’s that time of year it seems to be the begin ning of cool weather, fall ing leaves and dying flow ers. With the change of season comes a readjust ment of away of living for most all of us. As I write this, I hear the chat ter and excitement of children on their way to the first day of school. Now I’m wondering if my state of mind isn’t a state of nostalgia. Here is a recipe for Chocolate Frosting, which I found recently and I’ll share it with you: 1% cups sweetened con densed milk. 1 tbsp. water. l /» tsp. salt. 2 squares unsweetened chocolate. Mi tsp. vanilla. Put milk, water and salt in top of double boil 4 ON SAVINGS 4 / COMPOUNDED I JUNE 30 AND // 1 DECEMBER 30 iTonr Savings Insured Up To $15,000 By Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp. \\ |H 1 |T|T«y?T» That’s why ws offer more than a dozen dif ferent types of savings accounts ... to make sure we have the right one for each of your special savings goals. SEX IS NOT SO SEXY ANYMORE By JUDITH VIOBBT I bring the children one more glass of water. I rub the hormone night cream on my face. Then after I complete the isometrics, I greet my husband with a warm embrace. A vision in my long-sleeved flannel nightgown And socks (because my feet are always freezing). Gulping tranquilizers for my nerve ends, And Triaminic tablets for my wheezing. Our blue electric blanket’s set for toasty. Our red alarm clocks’ set at seven-thirty. I tell him that we owe the butcher plenty. He tells me that his two best suits are dirty. Last year I bought him Centaur for his birthday. (They promised he’d be come half - man, half beast). Last year he brought me something black and lacy. (They promised I’d go mad with lust, at least). Instead my rollers cling upon my pillow. And his big toenail scrapes against my skin. He rises to apply a little Chap Stick. I ask him to bring back two Bufferin. Oh somewhere there are lovely little boudoirs With Porthault sheets and canopies and whips. He lion hunts in Africa on weekends. She measures 33 around the hips. Their eyes engage across the brandy snifters. He runs his fingers through her Kenneth hair. The kids are in the other wing with nanny. The sound of violins is everywhere. In our house there’s the sound of dripping water. It’s raining and he never patched the leak. He grabs the mop and I get out the bucket. We both agree to try again next week. —Copyright (c) 1967 by the New York World Journal Tribune.
