OVERMAN First Installment: Be ginning this week the 1967 report of the Chowan County Cooperative Exten sion Service to the people will be published in week ly installments. We appre ciate the fine cooperation this paper is giving by 'publishing it. This report is very brief. Space and time do not permit going into details. It does provide information cn the areas of special em phasis with some high lights. 'Overman and Miss Diane Welch. “The Extension Advisory Board is represented on and supported by the County Board of Agricul ture, the County Extension Homemakers Council and the County 4- H Club Council. With the aid of these groups the County Extension Advisory Board determines the goals and helps to guide Extension in plans of action to meet the needs of the people. “Goals are established on a five-year basis. The annual goals and plans cf work are directed toward accomplishing the long range objectives within the given time. The five year goal set in 19.61 was entitled T. 6in ’66.’ This first five - year program was directed principally toward increasing farm in come. Chowan County successfully accomplished this goal by having the gross agricultural income increase from $5,491,000 in 1961 to $7,128,000 in 1966. This was $500,000, or 7% per cent above the 1966 goal of $6,579,370. “The second five - year Extension program entitled ‘Target 2’ began January 1, 1967. Target 2 sets forth goals in agricultural in come, youth development, family living and com munity development. “The goals and plan of work for 1967 were direct ed toward progress in at taining Target 2.” Sunday School Lesson Continued from Page 6 abundance where short ages exist —in our spirit ual life—where the short ages are really important and count for everything. County News By Mrs. Roland Evans Sympathy goes out to the family of Mrs. Eliza beth Parrish, native of Perquimans County. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Rogerson are the proud parents of a new baby boy. Miss Sandra Harrell is improving after being in an accident recently. John Oliver, Sr., is in the hospital in serious con dition resulting from a fall some time back. Sympathy goes out to the Mattie White family in Hertford. Mrs. Hilda Layton is able to be back at work. Rev. and Mrs. R. N. Carroll were welcomed back Sunday after a visit with loved ones and friends over Christmas. The WMU general meet ing was held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in the fellowship hall at the Baptist Church. The Assembly of God Church is having a study course this week. People in this area who know Rev. and Mrs. Oscar Creech of Ahoskie were sorry to hear of their son’s death, Orville Creech. Mrs. Pete. Dail, Mrs., Martha Harrell and Jleba went to Ahoskie Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Perry and boys of Suffolk and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Keeter of Elizabeth City visited Mr. and Mrs. Rol and Evans and Mrs. Edith Perry on Sunday. A Billy Graham evange listic crusade is being planned in the area. The Rescue Squad needs donations for equipment and experience. Don’t for get them and they will not forget you when an emerg ency arises. This is a very worthy cause. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Peele and children of Pan tego visited Mr. and Mrs, Charlie Peele recently. This is March of Dimes month, so give your dimes, dollars, etc., for in fantile paralysis and birth defects. The roller skating derby will be held in Norfolk, Va., Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17 at 8:30 P. M. Write to box office at Municipal Auditorium, Ninth and Granby Streets, for tickets. Maj. W. 0. Speight Is Reassigned SEYMOUR JOHNSON AFB—Maj. Will O. Speight, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Speight, Route 2, Edenton, recently received word that he will be reassigned Lunchroom Menu Menus at the Ernest A. Swain Elementary School lunchroom for hie week of January 15-19 will be: Monday: Luncheon meat, dried beans, carrot and cab bage salad, milk, school baked rolls, butter, peach pie, milk. Tuesday: Spanish rice with beef, buttered peas, cheese slices, corn bread, apple sauce, milk, butter. Wednesday: Beef vege table soup, milk, crackers, toasted cheese sandwiches, block cake with lemon top ping. Thursday: Roast pork, green beans, sweet potato puff, biscuits, baked cus tard, milk, butter. Prior to his coming to Seymour Johnson AFB in July, 1965, he was as signed to the command and staff college at the Air University, Maxwell AFB, Ala. Maj. Speight is a gradu ate of the John A. Holmes High School and the Uni versity of North Carolina ■and received his commis sion as an aviation cadet. Married to the former Billie E. Russell of Golds boro, the major has four children: Will O. 111, age eight; Lisa C., age six; Leslie Jean, age four and Russell E., age three. Maj. Speight will be on leave until February 1, and will spend his time be tween his Goldsboro resi dence at 200 Acorn Road, Goldsboro, and that of his. parents in Edenton.
