The boys wanted to do their part, so on their own they conducted a fund campaign within their home. Beginning with a contribution from their own money they then solicited each member of the house hold. The boys, justifiably proud, presented to the captain of the rescue squad the money they had col lected. Capt. James P. Ricks, Jr., said, “with this attitude of thoughtfulness for others demonstrated by these boys j and others who give the 1 rescue squad will continue 1 its volunteer service to the ; coirtnunity." • 1 Ricks reported that the rescue squad fund cam i paign has just passec Edenton, North Carolina, Thursday, February 8, 1968. Over 2,000 letters seek ing financial aid to provide necessary equipment to qualify the ambulance to meet new state law re ments were mailed before Christmas. About 100 persons have responded to the appeal. Tax Collections Lag In County Tax collections in Cho wan County are off some 16 per cent over the same period last year, according to W. E. Bond, chairman, county commissioners. Chairman Bond noted the decrease in collections Monday during the board’s monthly meeting at the j court house. Sheriff Earl Goodwin, tax collector, submitted a report that showed during January a total collection toward the 1967 levy amount to $103,310.09. The levy is $484,178.63. Delinquent taxes collect ed, along with the penalties amounted to $3,704.61. Pick-ups for the year 1951 through 1957 totaled $297.66.
