The beauty authorities at Avon suggest these tips for neat feet. Massage feet often with a softening cream or lotion to keep skin soft and supple. Treat them to regular pedicures. (Follow manicure steps but clip toenails straight across). Smooth away callouses and rough spots with a pumice stone. Make sure nails are smooth so they won’t cause stocking snags. Experiment with colored nail enamels, matching them with cloth ing and sandal colors. Those that look too splashy on fingernails may be just right on your toes. • • • Here's a packing tip for a summer trip. Before packing, spray the inside of suitcases with a spray sachet‘fo banish the stale musty odor that often col lects in them. To elimi nate suitcase chaos, group together like articles in plastic bags. Use one to pack gloves and scarves, others for night clothes, lingerie, grooming and makeup items. For long stays, everything can be transferred quickly to drawers without rearrang ing. Tuck in a few empty bags for laundry, wet bath ing suits and washcloths. • • • When you turn your back on the sun—be sure to give extra protection to the sel dom-exposed areas—heels, insteps and the backs of your knees! When they burn, it’s painful! Protect them with a suntanning preparation that gives max imum protection, and avoid over-exposure. Plan to tan for 15 minutes the first day, then gradually in crease exposure by about 5 minutes a day. Perspira tion, sun and swimming wear away protection, so reapply your suntanning preparation every 2 or 3 hours—more often if your skin is very sun-sensitive. One big reason is that it’s the end of lots of fresh vege tables tomatoes are al ready scarce and they are our favorites. But each season brings its own com pensations and if you’re happy, that’s all that real ly matters. One of my friends gave me a hint recently for a quick lunch. Just place slices of ripe tomatoes on toast and top with cheese sauce. It’s quite tasty and easy to prepare. (Thanks, Catherine). Occasionally some tiny, undeveloped seed coats are produced, but these aren't noticeable as you eat the melon. Os the usual multitudes of black seeds there's not a trace. Two seedless hybrids are on the market under number. Or der seeds of *317 if you want small melons weighing 8 to 12 pounds. *313 for larger 12-20 pound fruits. * * * Look around on the ground near where the foxgloves bloomed in June to see if there 1 are any seedlings. If so, trans plant them to where you want flowers next year. These plants are best moved when very small. Watch them and water well until they start growing again. • * « Planting seeds of delphin iums this fall? Consider the new Connecticut Yankees which grow only 2V4 to 3 feet tall so are not likely to be injured by wind.
