of a contest to name the
new N. C. State Fair mas
cot will be the royal guest
of the fair on opening day
October 14.
The contest is being held
to name the pert and
saucy caricature of the
state bird, the cardinal,
which will symbolize the
fair, according to Arthur
Pitzer, fair manager.

The contest is open to
any North Carolinian with
the exception of State
Fair employees and their
families, five years or
older. Entries must be
postmarked by October 7,
a week before the 101st
fair opens.
Contestants can enter as
many times as they like
but each entry must in
clude only one mascot
name, contestant's name,
address, phone number,
age and number in his :
family. In case of dupli
cation, the earliest post
mark wins.
