Although sunshine makes hearts happy.
And fills the world with cheer,
A gentle rain on a soft gray day
Would be quite welcome here.
Being the sun worship
per that I am. and oh, how
I’m loving these beautiful
sunny days. 1 am con
vinced that a rainy dav
would be welcome. Os
course, some of my reasons
for wanting a rainy day
are purely selfish, as for
instance then I would
stay inside and clean
closets and drawers, etc.,
especially since we expect
company from Pennsylva
nia during the next two
weeks. And you know
that most Yankees are
meticulous housekeepers.
Have you met Miss Wil
liford, the new librarian?
She is definitely an asset
to the library and the com
munity. One definite im
provement which I have
noticed at the library since
Miss Williford’s been here
is that she has filed the
books alphabetically by
authors, making it very
easy to select a book by
your favorite author. By
the way. if you are not a
regular visitor at the li
brary. you’ve missed a lot.
for reading is a wonderful
pastime.
We’ve a Bible study
class each Tuesday even
ing at the Edenton Metho
dist Church which we are
enjoying quite a lot. In
fact, it’s more or less a
discussion group with Mr.
Earnhardt as our leader.
It’s so interesting that most
of us will not miss the
hour's session each week at
7:3o—Tuesday nights. Our
friends are invited and will

Here’s what seems like a
good recipe:
Sugar Pecan Crisps
\ cup butter or margar
ine.
2/3 cup sugar.
1 egg.
1 tsp. vanilla
*,4 tsp. salt.
1% cups plain flour.
*2 cup iinely chopped
pecans.
Cream together butter
and sugar until light. Beat
in egg. vanilla and salt.
Gradually stir in flour.
Shape dough into two rolls,
each about I*2 inches in
diameter. Roll each in *4
cup of pecans to coat out
side. Wrap in wax paper
and chill thoroughly. Bake
in slices V 4 inch thick in
moderate oven on ungreas
ed cookie sheet lor 15 min
utes. Makes 4 dozen cook
ies.
A Few Hints
A small amount of vine
gar added to warm water
will remove grease from
kitchen floors and give
them a bright shin®
iron-on tape can be used
to hem up trouser legs for
a growing boy. It’s easier
to remove and replace the
stitches.
To prevent clogging
when running dates or
raisins through a food
chopper, add a few drops
of lemon juice.
Too many individuals
try to be smart instead of
truthful.
