Many Losing
S. S. Benefits
Many people in Chowan
County are losing social
security benefits. There
are many people who could !
be receiving social secur
ity benefits, but they have
not filed for them. If a
person 62 years old or old
er is working and earning
less than $1,680 per year,
they may be entitled to re
ceive social security checks
each month. If they aire
earning more than $1,680
per year, they may still be
entitled to some checks for
the year. It all depends on
how much they earn. So
cial security will pay them
a check for any month
they do not earn $l4O or
render substantial services
in self-esmployment.
You do not have to be
completely retired to re
ceive social security bene
fits. A person’s yearly
earnings and the number
of months they work de
termine how many checks
they will receive.
A person 62 years old or
older should contact the
social security office at 401
South Dyer Street, Eliza
beth City, for complete in
formation.
