Films Slated At Flying Club Edenton Flying Club, a newly organized club de signed to promote general aviation in the area, will meet Tuesday night at 8 o’clock at Edenton Munici pal Airport. West Byrum, club presi dent, announces that two FAA films of great inter est will be shown and im portant business transacted. The club has 30 mem bers and new members are being sought from among Chowan area citizens inter ested in flying. In addition to Bynun, officers are: Curtis O. Education Week Observance Set Edenton-Chowan Schools are taking part in Ameri can Education Week, No vember 10-16. The theme is: “America Has a Good Thing Going—lts Schools.” America does have a good thing going in its t .Stools, says a local NOEA official, and it faces a big challenge to keep it going and improving. The ob servance of this week gives the community the oppor tun it y to observe its schools, appraise them and offer support for improve ment. Wednesday night open house was 'held for the Walker Parent _ Teacher group with students in grades seven through 12. Tonight (Thursday) has been set aside by Walker primary, Swain, Chowan, White Oak and Holmes schools as the day the par ents are cordially invited to visit. “Come see for yourself the educational strengths of the school and con structive criticism to help overcome its weaknesses will be welcomed, a spokesman said. ‘-Arreri-a does have a good thing gri-g in its schools—aid you can help to make it better by your participation,” it was said. “Visit the public library, the lobby of the county of fice building and view the educational displays, also.” Hiram A. Weeks’ Mother Succumbs Mrs. Mamie Bond Weeks, 82, mother of Hiram A. Weeks of Edenton, died in Lee Memorial Hospital at Sanford Monday after a long illness. She was a member of Dawson Baptist Church at Scotland T'eck, where frn eral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Wesley Barnhill of Scotland Neck, Mrs. George Brown of Murfreesboro, and Mrs. E. E. Duffell of Sanford; three sons, Rev. James Weeks of Red Oak, Dan ford Weeks of Scotland Neck and Hiram A. Weeks of Edenton. Fifteen grand children also survive. Sf f * m ' I TO MAKE DEBUT—Two seniors at D. F.
