This training is being conducted by Charles Skin ner, Jr., of the Hertford Fire Department. Skinner is a fire and safety in structor with the Depart ment of Community Col leges. He is working through the College of the Albemarle Adult Training Division. Skinner said, “These fire bridagemen at Don Juan have shown a great deal of interest in this training and will be in the position to render valuable service to their company and com munity in the time of emergencies.” Along with Chief Shneer other members of the bri gade are: Capt. Elsey L. Cherrix, Leon Harrell, Wayne Perry, Percy Davis, R. E. Ashley, Jr., Buck A. Smith, Clarence Bozman, Gerald Ashley, John Rich ard Byrum, Roy L. Ashley and Roy Melton. Cancer Patients Four Given Jail Terms In District Court Here Can Get Service People in Chowan Coun ty are not yet fully aware of the extent of help avail able to cancer patients from the Chowan Unit, American Cancer Society. This was stressed at a recent board meeting of the society. It was said that locally the prime goal of the society is to make the public more aware of the services available. Services include trans portation, dressings, drugs, nursing, loan closet and housekeeping. Mrs. Kenneth Floars, ser vice chairman, reported that in the first 10 months of 1968 there were 11 ap plications for service. Peo ple in need of any of the services should contact Mrs. Floars for additional information. The society has memorial cards available for special gifts. A donation can be made to the society in the name of someone and the society will send a card to the family indicating a gift was made and identi fying the donor. Mrs. W. J. P. Solicitor Wilton Walker prosecuted the docket. Earl Lee Harris was sentenced to six months for injury to real property; John Rountree, Jr., and Harris were given 12 month terms for assault with a deadly weapon; Willie Hol ley was given six months for a similar offense, and James Lee Holley, 12 months for breaking and entering. In other cases called, the following action was tak en: Laura DeLois Fleming, traffic violation, costs. Joseph Vann Holley, crime against nature, prob able cause and bond set at $2,500. Robert McClease Holley, driving drunk, 90 days, sus pended upon payment of SIOO fine and costs and not drive for 12 months. No tice of appeal given and bond set at S3OO. Clarence E. Walker, false pretense, nol pros with leave. Billy Fickell, assault on a female, prosecuting wit ness taxed with costs of court. Clifton Robert Satter field, traffic violation, prayer for judgment con tinued upon payment of costs. Phyllis J. Byrum, alias Phyllis Jeffries, issuance of a worthless check, six months, suspended upon payment of SSO fine and costs and make restitution for S2O check. Walter Twine, Issuance of worthless check, prayer for judgment continued up on payment of costs and make restitution for $lB check.
