Claims Honor
A pretty green - eyed
bank teller from Eastern
North Carolina has won
the national title of “Miss
Drive-In Teller of 1969”
following a vote by presi
dents of 14,000 banks in
all 50 states.
She is Miss Nell Jones
who just completed an in
tensive four-month cam
paign for the coveted title
which is tantamount to
“Miss U. S. Banker of
1969.”
Miss Jones is a teller for
First National Bank of
Eastern North Carolina in
Jacksonville. She grew up
harvesting tobacco for 50
cents an hour and driving
a school bus for $1 a day.
Part of her campaign
took her to Chicago for a
week of “politicking” at
the American Bankers As
sociation’s annual conven
tion during October. The
final stage was her selec
tion from among three
finalists through a mail
balloting by presidents of
the nation’s 14,000 banks.
