counties of North Carolina,
where some type of all
risk crop insurance pro
tection is available, were
present. “The program is
well received in the most
western county of the
state, Mitchell County, us
far east as Beaufort Coun
ty, and from the most
southern to the northern
part of the state,” Mann
said.
“Over 30,000 people were
guaranteed S9O million in
1968 with nearly one and
one-half million dollars in
claims paid for losses. To
bacco insureds received
nearly one million dollars
and one-fourth million was
paid for cotton losses.
These claims were paid
principally due to the rec
ord breaking heat and
drought of last summer,”
he stated.
Federal crop insurance
guarantees the investment
on tobacco, cotton, pea
nuts, soybeans, com, ap
ples and peaches should
any destructive force of
nature bring production
below cost. The protec
tion is offered in a limit
ed number of counties ex
cept for tobacco and this
insurance is available in
most counties where to
bacco is a main crop.
