The great changes that were 1 made during this era are among the greatest in history. Why? What was so wonderful about the Vic torian era that brought about the changes? A story related about Queen Victoria goes something like this: A little child was sick in one of the humble cottages outside the royal home. No one knew i <j how really sick she was. Her father had just ! come as an assistant gardener. The little child ! did not improve. Everyone was anxious. One i day, commonly claid, came a matronly mother | soui, bringing a pitcher of fresh milk. She went i into the little kitchen and made the fire and , g prepared the fresh milk, giving it to the little I girl. She put the mother to bed. for she was jj worn and weary and could scarcely stand. The I little girl recovered. Later when the mothei 9 and child attended a gala-day celebration. Queen I Victoria passed by. ‘That’s the lady who helped I us when you were sick,” declared the mother. I No wonder the Victorian period changed man- Q kind’s attitudes. j Colonial Funeral Home Edenton, Norik Carolina The Northeastern Can cer dime will be held on I Friday afternoon, February 7 with registration be ginning at 1230 P. M. A chest X-ray will be given to anyone wishing it along | with the examination of the five areas of the body where cancer is most eas ily found and eured. Only 30 people can be seen at the center each month due to limited facilities, so it is suggested that anyone who wishes to be assured of an appointment should write or call the Cancer Center, Health Department, Elizabeth City, for a prior ity. Examinees are asked to bring a robe or house coat with them. Temptation rarely comes in workirfg hours; it is ip their leisure time teat men are made or marred. —William Taylor. fß'Vy V'
