PAGE TWO-A rROAD STREET BULLETIN by te ATE It’s a risky piece of business To start your day with a frown And you never know how ugly words Might push a neighbor down. It’s the little things you do and say That count to folks along the way, A happy smile, a word of cheer May make their day shine bright and clear. As I’ve said before, a smile is contagious just try it and see. I still seem to be plagued with the aftermath of the flu, so any news I might know is stale. I suppose if I would stay inside long enough to give this cold a chance enough to heal, I’d get well quicker, but that's a hard task with me when the sun shines, that’s a signal to me to get out side. On one of the warmer days recently I discovered two white narcissus and a violet blooming in our yard and what a differ ence it made on my day. Then on Saturday Buff bought me a purple hya cinth which is still very beautiful. All this means that my favoritd time of year can’t be too far away. We are now enjoying some delicious, oranges and grapefruit, brought to us by a friend • who recently returned from a trip to Florida. The oranges are almost as big as the grape fruit and so very, very de licious. Last week I gave you a suggestion as to what to do if you’re tired of cold weather and are bored in general. This week I have another suggestion. Take a walk down street and browse around in the stores. Spring styles and fashions are blooming out all over. The dresses, suits and coats are truly beautiful this year. I do wish some of you would send in your recipes. Here is one that I’ve had in this column before. It was given to me by Buff’s granddaughter at Southern For Sale 110 Twiddy Ave. Three bedrooms, living room, kitchen and din ing room. 1/ baths; large den with fire place. Swimming pool with filter. Perhaps you'd like to try it: Chocolate Chess Pie Vi stick butter. 3V4 teaspoons cocoa. 1% cups sugar. 1 tsp. vanilla. 2 eggs. 1 small can of milk. Mix cocoa, sugar, then add melted butter, beaten eggs, vanilla and milk. Pour in uncooked pic shell and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. A Few Hints you’ll get more heat from radiators if you coat them with flat paint rath er than aluminum paint. Make it easier for child ren to pull on their boots by attaching a large key ring on the zipper pull. If you have a stump without glue on it. mois ten the back of it and rub it over the flap of the en velope. It will absorb enough glue to stick. A rubber jar ting ce mented to your dog dish will prevent it from slip ping. Varnished surfaces clean nicely with a soft cloth dipped in cool tea. If the rung of a chair keeps loosening after be ing fixed with glue, try plastic wood the next time. A damp sponge sprinkled with soda will remove tea and coffee stains from china without scratching the surface. I Miss Cofield, 67, i Buried In Edenton Miss Sudie Eliza Co- I field. 67, of Norfolk.
