Three Attend Symposium NEW BERN—Three from Chowan County were among some 160 persons from five states attending a symposium on Tryon Palace here, co - sponsored by Tryon Palace Restora tion and East Carolina University. They were: Mrs. Lyn Bond, Mrs. Nelson B. Crandall and Mrs. Fred erick B. Drane. Mrs. Crandall is chief hostess for Historic Edenton, Inc. The symposium, a two day study of the restored palace and the 18th cen tury decorative arts, got underway last Tuesday. According to Virginia Horne, first vice chairman of the Tryon commission, the symposium is the first of its kind under the joint auspices of ECU’s Division of Continuing Education and the Tryon Restoration. Bunch, Route 2, Edenton, have been hon ored for outstanding ser vice in rural electrifica tion. Mathews and Bunchy were amnng 15 EMC di rectors cited at a meeting of Tarheel Electric Mem bership Association in Ra leigh March 4-6. Chairman Gwyn B. Price of tite North Carolina Ru ral Electrification Author ity, who presented certifi cates to the 15, praised Mathews and Bunch for their contribution to their cooperative and the devel opment of their area. Mathews and Bunch were awarded certificates for 20 yean service each as directors of Albemarle EMC. They were unable to be in Raleigh for the presentation. V. Boy Scout News Edenton Boy Scout Troop No. 156 had a two>- night camping trip March 7-0. The Scouts met at Rw Scout Cabin Friday after noon at 4 o’clock and left for Camp Perry in Perl quintans County. The boys prepared their camp site and dug in for the cold night ahead. On Saturday the day was spent in physical ac tivity, advancement and instruction. That night there was an initiation held for the new Scouts. The Scouts assembled their gear Sunday morn ing and left few home at 10 o’clock.
