of Edenton received the
highest score in his com
pany of 143 men in the
basic rifle marksmanship
course at Ft, Dix, N. J.
Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
Townson, Queen Anne’s
Place, have received let
ters from Capt. Adrian M.
Fitzpatrick, their son’s
company aommander, and
Maj. Gen. K. W. Collins,
Fort Dix commanding of
ficer.
Capt. Fitzpatrick said
the soldier’s score of 78
out of a possible 84 “dem
onstrates his ability to
comprehend and apply ac
quired military knowl
edge.”
“Pvt. Townson’s accom
plishments and motivation
in basic training demon
strates the qualities of an
excellent soldier. One that
you can be very proud of
and one which I am happy
to have in my command,”
he concluded.
Gen. Collins wrote:
i “During the eight week
training cycle, Jerry earn
ed the respect and admira
tion of his fellow soldiers
and the members of the
cadre. He proved himself
as a dedicated American
and a devoted soldier. Your
son is a credit to his fam
ily, to his country and to
the community from which
he entered the service. I
am certain our pleasure to
have had Jerry during his
initial military training is
matched by your justifiable
pride.”
Pvt. Townson is now
stationed at Ft. Monmouth,
N. J.

Feed Grain, Wheat and
Cotton
The sign up for feed
grain and cotton ends on
March 21, 1969. Producers
participating in the feed
grain and wheat programs
may earn diversion and/or
price support payments.
Only com harvested from
farms participating in the
feed grain program is elig
ible for loan.
Through March 10 we
had 247 farms participat
ing in the feed grain pro
gram, 316 in the cotton
program and 13 in the
wheat program with ad
vance payments amounting
to $63,583.70. If you plan
to go in one or more of
these programs, please
visit the county office and
sign up now. The final
date to sign up is March
21.

Again this year it will
be the producers respons
ibility to accurately deter
mine and report to the
ASCS office his crop and
land uses. Incorrect re
porting of acreage or fail
ure to fully meet program
requirements can be very
costly. For this reason
we are offering premeas
urement services before
planting. The rates for
this service is SO.BO per
acre for all crops and land
uses plus a $3.00 flat fee
with a $7.50 minimum
charge per farm.
So before guessing and
taking a chance, contact
the county ASCS office
and have your land pre
measured.
