PAGE TWO-A BRO AD STREET BULLETIN KATE If I could detour years gone by And live them once again, I know I’d turn the pages slow, Not fast as way back when I was so eager for life to begin. I’d try to slow down and see things That I overlooked back then; I would talk much less and listen more And be what I might have been, That is ... IF ONLY . .. How many thousand times you hear it said by everyone: “If only ...” Those two are the most plaintive wards in our language. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could think before we act and thus eliminate those sor rowful words? I’m writing this just af ter a soft spring rain, when all the flowers look washed and fresh. I can’t help think that it’s that way with life. Many times, after a little rain in our lives, we grow faster and become better people. We are off on our an nual trip to Florida, with stops here and there on the way. We try to take dif ferent routes each time, with no definite plan or purpose it’s more fun that way. Our Methodist Church was so pretty on Easter Sunday with a large num ber of Easter lilies deco rating the altar and win dows. And to make it more lovely, the church was decorated with a rec ord breaking number of people, who really acted like they were happy in the resurrection. Beer served in pleasant and wholesome surroundings is the aim of the United States Brewers Association. And we are always striving to do something about it. The US BA is represented by field men around the country. They meet with proprietors of establishments where beer is sold. They work in every way possible to promote a set of high standards wherever beer is served. This USBA effort means even more enjoyable places for America’s great beverage of moderation. [ The old historic homes are beautiful and, of course, Eden ton has many to be proud of and which will bring many tourists , here this coming week. But : then, the new, modem and ; compact homes, such as the ; one of Caroline and Jim ■ Swindell’s, on Queen t Anne’s Place, certainly • makes for easier living. The Swindell’s home, as far as I’m concerned, is just about perfect for a I ' small family. It has most I every modem convenience, I electric heat, plenty of I storage space and beside I all that, it has a wonder- I ful view. Couldn’t happen I to two nicer people, too. I’m glad to know that I I do have a few readers of I this column, which was I proven to me last week I one night about 9:30. A I rap came to our door and I when I opened it, there I was a little boy who told I me that he had read in I this column that I was I having trouble finding I someone to cut the grass. I He seemed a little small, I but was so polite and so I eager, I decided to give I him the job. I’m sorry I that I cannot remember I his first name, but his I last name is Belch, whose I parents bring him and his mower in from the county. He did a fine job, by the way, and promised to be back this week. * I’ll be glad when Day i light Saving Time starts. It will give us longer time to fish. We’ve been fish ing every evening this week, but it gets dark too soon. THE CHOWAN HERALD. E DENTON, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY.
