Claude Sitton. editorial director of The News & Observer Publishing Co., was the speaker for the evening. Jim Whitfield, state edi tor of the newspaper, pre sided at the banquet. Al so present were Frank Daniels. Sr., president and publisher of the News & Observer, Associate Editor Tom Inman; and Managing Editor Woodrow Price. The award is a part of a program by the nation's daily newspapers to recog nize the talertts of out standing high school jour nalists throughout the country. MAY 15. 1969 Rescue Seminar Set For June CHAPEL HILI The Fourth Annual North Ca rolina Rescue Institute will be held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill June 7 and 8. The institute, open to all interested rescue squad personnel, will begin with registration at 8 A. M„ on June 7 in Morrison Resi dence Hall. Lectures, dem onstrations and group dis cussions will be held on the main UNC campus. The University of North Carolina Extension Division through its Bureau of Resi dential Adult Education in cooperation with the UNC School of Medicine, the State of North Carolina In surance Department and several Rescue Associations, sponsors of the Institute, advise interested persons to pre-register for the pro gram to avoid long regi stration lines. The fishery was the oldest in operation in Chowan Coun ty and was built during the 1800's and represented .the efforts and investments of several generations. Mrs. Sidney Campen announced that plans were under vay for staging the second annual flower show sponsored by the Edenton Junior Woman’s Club. Thomas C. Byrum, Jr., was elected president of Edenton Junior Chamber of Commerce. In an effort to relieve Edenton's housing shortage ground was broken and building material arrived at Albemarle Court for what was expected to be construction of 56 houses if the demand for living quarters in Edenton con tinued. Another forward step in improving shipping facili ties for local merchants and business people was effectuated with the open ing in Edenton of a branch shipping terminal of the Thurston Motor Lines of Wilson.
