PAGE TWO -A BROAD STREET BULLETIN —by KATE So many of us dream of tomorrow, Missing the joys of today. I’ll admit that tomorrows are exciting, But, oh, how I love today. Even through the darkest night, when day breaks, •there’s hope again. A •friend of mine, a very lady, a joy to be ••around, tells me that she •lives just for today and • enjoys each day as it Icomes. She is old in years :but very young at heart — •truly an inspiration. • Well, here we are, two ifairly healthy people again t—it’s a great feeling. I •do believe that we’re be ginning to realize that we ijust can’t “galivant” as Snuch as we’d like to do, irnt at least we can still go fishing—one of the biggest ’“fringe benefits” of living in wonderful Edenton! • Many of us in Edenton were shocked at the death i>f Bob Spence of Eliza beth City. Bob, who was a Mason and also a member pf the Eastern Star, was loved by all. As one ■friend said, Bob lived more GOOD years in 54 years class by themselves. It won’t be long before school will be over for the summer and I’ll surely miss all the children pass ing by. Then on warm days, when the windows are open, I can hear the piano music and the child ren singing, which some how gives me a “lift.” I received two most wel come letters this past week from old friends, one from Edna Barnhill of Winston- Salem and one from Mrs. Melvin Parham of Ashe ville. Golly, it’s nice to get these letters, as those two gals are some of my favorite people. Each one of them sent their best i wishes to all of their friends here, of whom I there are many. Oh, I al-1 most forgot, Glen and Jean j Mabe also sent us a note.; They, all three, agree on [ one special thing they would love to return to [ Edenton. I saw Emma Bunch (Mrs. Haywood) in the Nu Curl ( Beauty Salon this past | week and she looked pret tier than ever. Gee, it was nice to see her looking so well and pretty at the same time. I do appreciate all the recipes sent to me. Here’s one which came from a member of the Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, byway of Edna Barnhill. It is a jello-dessert salad and sounds delicious: 1 small can frozen or ange juice. 1 medium can fruit cock tail. 1 small package of cream cheese. 1 package orange jello. Heat concentrated orange juice and juice from fruit cocktail (add enough water to make 2 cups liquid). Combine enough juice to cream cheese to blend well. Dissolve jello with heated juice and combine cocktaii and fold in the creamed cheese. Set in freezing compartment until well ■set. Also here’s one sent to me by Mrs. Parham, who says this recipe for a fruit salad will keep well for a week in the refrigerator: ! 1 can of mandrin or anges, drained. 1 can fruit cocktail, drained. 1 can crushed pineapple, drained. 1 cup Angel Flake cocoa nut. Vz cup chopped pecans. 1 carton sour cream. Mix all together pn d store in refrigerator. Use the combined fruit juices for punch. THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON. NORTH CAROLINA. THURSDAY. MAY 29, 1969.
