PAGE SIX :-a I. H. Byrum, 35, Taken In Death Joseph Humphrey By rum, '95, died at his home in Center Hill Monday. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Byrum was bom April 9, 1874, in Chowan County, son of the late Billy and Mandy Savage Byrum. He was the wid ower of Elizabeth C. Good win Byrum. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Anne Asbell of Cen ter Hill; two sisters: Mrs. Rosie Jordan and Mrs. Cora Boyce, both of Nor folk, Va., and three grand children. He was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with Rev. M. B. Motts in charge. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Williford Funeral Home had charge of arrange ments. Anniversary Dinner Held Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Peele of Edenton were honored Sunday at a sur prise dinner on their 39th wedding anniversary. Hosting the event were Mr. and Mrs. Clark Peele of Pantego. A bouquet of yellow mums and green candles made a beautiful setting for the large cake in the cen ter of the table. Those attending the din ner were the Peele’s other sons, Thomas and Jerry of Edenton. Kim, Karen and Kelly Peele of Pantego, grandchildren of the hon orees, attended with Miss Marie Baker of Merry Hill, Miss Deborah Barrow of Edenton, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Bundy and Richard of Pantego, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brooks and sons of Windsor visited in the afternoon. In the mid-afternoon the hostess cut the anniversary cake and served it with punch, nuts and mints. Mr. Peele received a silver tie bar and Mrs. Peele receiv ed several pieces of china. Mayor Mitchener ad dressed those present, re calling pa9t accomplish ments and complimented the various departments of the Town on the perform ance of their duties. He also expressed to those present his thanks for be ing able to serve the Town in various capacities during the past eighteen years and he presented to Adminis trator Gardner, to be used by future Councils, a silver tea set with tray and a comer cupboard in Which to store these articles. Mr. Gardner accepted these with thanks on behalf of the Town. Mayor Pro-tem Luther C. Parks presented Mr. Mitch ener with a plaque on which the following reso lution was inscribed: Whereas the Honorable John A Mitchener, Jr., has rendered outstanding ser vice to the Town of Eden ton, serving as Councilman, Mayor Pro-tem, Mayor, and Whereas his accomplish ments have brought honor to Edenton from through out the entire State of North Carolina, and Whereas he is ending eighteen years of distin guished service Now, therefore, be it re solved that the Town Council of the Town of Edenton and its employees express sincere apprecia tion to Mayor Mitchener for his untiring efforts in Edenton’s behalf and wish him well in all future endeavors. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolu tion be spread upon the minutes of the Town Coun cil of the Town of Eden ten and a copy presented to Mayor Mitchener. Upon motion of Henry G. Albemarle Street from Broad to its terminus. 2. Coke Avenue. ' 3. Ryders Lane on N. C. Highway 1107. 4. Paxton lane on N. C. Highway 1106 to the ex tension that is in corporate limits. 5. Robbin Lane. 6. Terry Avenue. 7. Douglas Avenue. 8. Extension of William son Road. 9. Dillard Avenue. 10. Vann Street He explained to the Council that action needed to be taken in order to qualify these streets to be included in the 1969-70 Powell Bill allocation. Mo tion by J. C. Dail, second ed by Leo Katkaveck, it was unanimously carried accepting Mr. Gardner’s recommendation and re questing the County Com missioners to see that these streets are removed from the State Highway System and incorporated into the Municipal Street System. It wae decided that a meeting be called for May 27 at 8 P. M. to discuss the new zoning ordinance and Morgan Park Subdivision. Upon recommendation by Mayor Byrum and follow ing a motion by Leo Kat kaveck and a second by D. G. White, it was unani mously carried that the Weed Cutting Ordinance be amended to include May 15th as beginning date for the cutting of weeds on lots that owmers allow to grow in an unsightly condition. _ Mayor Byrum expressed to the Council that the need to give serious con sideration to items for in clusion in the 1969-70 fis cal budget and that they will be meeting on this matter in the very near future.
