I found these novels of North Carolina very much to my interest —in fact, after reading one or two, I knew that I wanted to own each one and wouldn’t allow myself to read any until I could have my very own copy. Before my re tirement two years ago, I recommended all of the North Carolina series to my high school history classes as being the most accur ate, most readable as well as the most knowledgeable of their respective period. I could hardly wait until I learned that my favorite writer had produced an other book for my enjoy ment. Now, her pen has been stilled, and no more will her keen mind bring the hardships, the struggles, the humaness, the triumphs of our Colonial period so vividly to us who live two, yes, even three cen turies later in a world that is still struggling. With Mrs. Fletcher’s death, I feel as though I have lost a dear friend, although I never had the privilege of meeting this wonderful woman except on a com mon ground our mutual love of America and her first colonies. My library is complete with the exception of her well known but now out of print, so I am told, “Men of Albemarle.” If anyone has an extra copy with which they can bear to part, I would appreciate it greatly if they would let me know. I will send a check by return mail. Sincerely, SARA LOCKE REDFORD.
