Kehayes of Minto, Alaska; Alex Kehayes of Chapel Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Ke hayes and children, Sylvia and Ernie, of Raleigh were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kehayes. Martin Zimmerman re turned Sunday to Rocky Mount after spending a week’s vacation with his mother, Mrs. J. Edwin Bufflap and Mr. Bufflap. Melvin B. Ashley and children of Mata wan, N. J., spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Luther A. Ashley. a Mrs. Lucille Stokes and Miss Thelma Williams of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Hugh B. Griffin of Wil liamston were Sunday guests of their sister, Mrs. Irma Allsbrook and Mr. Allsbrook. Mrs. John W. Hollowell has returned after a trip to Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Barnes and Melaine are spending this week on Chowan Riv er. The Barnes are former ly of Eden ton. Mr. and Mi's. J. H. Alls brcck returned Wednesday night cf last week from Richmond, Va., where they have been a few weeks while Mrs. Allsbrook un derwent an operation at Stuart Circle Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stillman and three sons of Mobile, Ala., are spending this week as guests of Mrs. Stillman’s mother, Mrs. Henry Rogerson and Mr. Rogerson. Mrs. Adrian E. Jones pent the weekend in Goldsboro and attended the Jones - Pollcck wedding in LaGiange on Saturday. The N. C. Legislature appropriates $75,000 per year for the North Caro lina Symphony. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Chester A. Andrews, assist ed by Rev. George Cooke, in a candlelight setting of palms and mums. The nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Thomas Chappell, organist, and Mrs. Ray Kirby was soloist. The bride is the daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. J. Law rence Winslow of Winfall. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. As bell of Tyner. The bride was given in marriage by her father and were a floor-length peau de soie gown with empire Chantilly lace bodice, scal loped neckline and scallop ed bell sleeves. The de tachable train featured ap pliques of Chantilly lace, and the bodice and sleeves were accented with seed pearls. CHARLES MANUEL ASBELL Birthday Party Held for Head Start Participants A birthday party was held for all children at tending Head Start with these whose birthdays came during the program as spe cial guests. The children helped to make their own hats which were very colorful and decorative. Prior to going in the lunchroom the . - and the veil were designed and made by the bride. She carried a white Bible topped with an orchid cor sage; ribbon streamers tied in love knots draped the Bible. Mrs. J. Robert Gay of Portsmouth, Va., was mat ron of honor for her niece. Bridesmaids were Miss Marinda Blanchard of Hc'bbsville, Miss Marlena Hollowell of Portsmouth, Va., cousins of the bride groom, Miss Margaret Mansfield of Hertford and Miss Nancy Riddick of Bel videre. Co - mistresses of cere mony were Mrs. J. Wallace Hcbbs of Bethel, the bride’3 aunt, and Mrs. Clyde White, Jr., of Hertford. Mr. Asbell was best man for his son. Ushers were A1 Asbell of Tyner, Rodney Bunch of Belvidere, Lester Ray Ccpeland of Tyner and Joseph and Richard Wins low, brothers of the bride. The bride’s mother wore a sky blue dress of dacron, white accessories and a . double orchid corsage. 1 For her son’s wedding [ Mrs. Asbell chose a pale 1 pink rayon dress accented children played games and listened to records all to gether. The lunchroom, which was decorated with various colored balloons, had a special menu consisting of turkey and all the trim mings, birthday cake and ice cream. Favors were presented to with an embroidered trim on the collar and bodice. She wore matching acces sories and a double cymbi dium orchid corsage in 1 deep pink. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the church fellow ship hall. After the recep tion the bride changed to a pale pink crepe “A” line dress which featured a ruffled neckline and short sleeves. She wore the or chid corsage lifted from her Bible and pink accessories. The bride graduated in 1968 from Perquimans County High School and attended the College of the Albemarle this year. The bridegroom is a 1967 grad uate of Chowan High School. The couple will make their home at Shady Knoll Mobile Estate in Greenville, where Mr. As bell will be a junior at East Carolina University. Pre-Nuptial Parties On June 19, Miss Wins low was honored at a sur prise coke party given by the Perquimans County Marching Unit.- It was given at the home Os Mrs. Joe Rogerson, Jr., Route 1, Hertford. Forty-two people attended the party and the unit presented the bride with an electric fryer. The bride was entertain ed at a girl party given by Margaret and Frances Mansfield on July 3 at their home. On July 10 the bride was honored at a floating miscellaneous shower held at the Belvidere Commun ly 55 people attended the shower. Hostesses were Mrs. Arthur Chappell, Mrs. Thomas Chappell, Mrs. J. Wallace Hobbs, Mrs. Bon nie D. White, and Mrs. Charles Layden. The couple and their par ents were honored at a supper on July 13 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Em mette Jones and at a cook out at the home cf Mr. and Mrs. Rufus M. Smithson on July 19. On Saturday, July 26, a pre-rehearsal dinner was given for the wedding par ty. The supper was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Asbell and was hosted by the parents of the bridegroom and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blanchard of Hobbsville. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde White, Jr., entertained the wedding party at an after rehearsal party at their home in Hertford on July 26. At this party the couple presented gifts to their attendants. all the children and the noise was enjoyed by all. Janitors, maids, aides, teachers, social workers and Mr. Beamon enjoyed the gala affair, one that will be remembered in days to come by many of the youngsters. Try Herald Classifieds Girls To Get Certificates Forty-seven girls were enrolled in the summer recreation program direct ed by Carole Haste. During the past few weeks they have engaged in tennis, basketball, soft ball, gymnastics, ping pong and arts and crafts. Things made during the arts and crafts sessions were bread baskets, fruit bowls and ash trays made of popsicle sticks, stuffed animals, jewelry boxes, pot holders and rag dolls. Trips have been made to Hertford and Elizabeth City for scftball games. To end up the girls’ rec reation program Friday, a picnic is planned at Sandy Point Beach. At this pic nic those who have dis played effort and sports manship with good attend ance will receive certifi cates of participation. Those who will be rec ognized include: Deborah Babb, Bcbbi Jo Bass, Mary Jo Barrow, Sharon Bateman, Susan Brooks, Kitty Cox, Dianne Crummey, Linda Dail, An nette Evans, Carolyn Erv in, Kathryn Gocdwin, Candy Hardin, Cheryl Hol lowell, Allison Jordan, Mit zi Jordan and Anne Leary.
