C. 452-3 SM CHILDISH THOUGHTS By MARY LIZZIE LANE The first admirer that I had, I was young you’ll understand. I wore my hair in a pony tail, And my age I am ashamed to tell. I didn’t know what it was all about When he came up to take me out, My first stroll was in a billy goat cart; We were young with tender hearts. We would ride down the lane If the weather was pretty and no rain. We would sit on a seatboard side by side, He’d whisper low this rig is yours and mine. The billy goat would jog along, He would hold tight to my arm. Then he would say, “Does your mother mind If we ride out for a half mile?” The goat was shiny and the cart was new. It was wonderful for just us two. I can remember the path we took, How the trees and the wild flowers looked. When the goat got worn and tired He’d have to unhitch him and let him rest awhile. Then my paint books I would get And we would color as we sit. I met him at my grandma’s home, Now those days are past and gone. I suppose I was seven then And I guess this boy was ten. Children in those days were easy entertained, They were content to play almost any game, Now fifty years have past and gone And old age is creeping on. I am still living, he may be dead, He moved away, people said. I can remember our childish thoughts •And the good times that they brought. You’re first a child, then a man, This people should try to understand. Serve the Lord the best you can And live by all of His commands. Tyfcr S CLEAN SWEEP dt BIG SAVINGS!
