PAGE TWO-A aL W. FRANKLIN CALE Former Pastor Here Honored Rev. W. Franklin Cale, a former Baptist minister in Chowan County, has been awarded the Doctor of Div inity degree by the Univer sity of Richmond in Rich mond, Va. Dr. Cale is pastor of the First Baptist Church in South Boston, Va. He grew up in Chowan County while his father was pastor of Center Hill, Warwick Swamp and Rocky Hock Baptist churches for 18 years. Up on his father’s death he succeeded him and was pastor of these churches from 1933 to 1942. The day before he was awarded the degree, Dr. Cale preached the bacca laureate sermon at the University of Richmond his alma mater. Mr. Chappell Taken In Death William Thomas Chap- j pell, 83, Route 2, Tyner, j died Monday night in Albe- i marie Hospital in Elizabeth City. He was a native of Cho wan County, son of the late Silas W. and Elmyra Boyce Chappell. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Lucy Lamb Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a mail carrier for Star Route in Winfall. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Alice By rum of Tyner; Mrs. Myra Messener of Westchester, Pa., and Miss Mary Wins low of Belvidere; four sons; Carlton W. Chappell of Winfall; Louis A. Chappell of Tyner; Walton S. Chap pell of Westchester, Pa., and Sgt. Milton L. Chappell of Jacksonville, Ark.; a brother, Ambrose H. Chap pell of Belvidere; two stepdaughters: Mrs. John R. Gibson of Wilmington, Del., and Mrs. Carl Thomas of High Point; two step sons: William Lamb of Wilmington, Del., and John T. Lamb of Greensboro; 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 3 P. M., in the chapel of Swindell Funeral Home in Hertford. Rev. Harold Leake and Rev. L. T. Chap pell will officiate.
