S., Fred Moore of Salisbury, has designated Sunday, No-, vember 9, as Veterans Sun day and called upon all VFW posts in the state to participate in' its observ ance. Awards Event Set At Chowan The annual golf awards banquet at Chowan Golf & Country Club will be held at 7:30 P. M. Saturday, ac cording to William H. Bunch, golf committee chairman. Cecil W. Herman Ray Cotton Coston Added To Police Force i Herman Ray Coston,, Route 1, Edenton, joined Edenton Police Department as a patrolman. Chief J. D. Parrish said the addition of Patrolman Coston to the force gives the local department full strength. Coston replaced Willie Satterfield, who re signed some time ago to ac cept private employment. Patrolman Coston is a native of Chowan County and has served nearly three years in the U. S. Army. He trained at Ft. Gordon, Ga„ and Ft. Dix, N. J., before serving in I Germany and Vietnam. He is a graduate of D. F. Walker High School. He is married and the father of one child. The Costons, while now residing in the county, plan to move to Edenton in the near future. Riot Losses NEW YORK —Civil dis orders and riots in 1968 hit 361 cities in 37 states, and the District of Columbia, according to the Insurance Information Institute. The upheavals, chiefly occur ring in early April follow ing the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., caused more than $79 mil ! lion in insured losses. The hardest-hit city was Wash- J ington, D. C., where losses totaled some $24 million.
