Church Setting Os Local Wedding The First .Presbyterian Church in Edenton was the setting Monday afternoon of a double ring ceremony uniting Miss Nguyen Thi Whan and John Agrippa Mitchener, 111. The bride is the daugh ter of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Day and the late Pierre L,atillerie of Saigon, Re public of Vietnam. The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John A. Mit chener, Jr., of Edenton. - Rev. Warren G. Nance officiated. Chancel deco rations included Gothic candlelabra, white poinset tas and palms. The wedding service fea © , Y Mrs. J. A. The bride was given in marriage by M. A. Hughes of Edenton, a close friend of the bridegroom’s family. Mrs. J. W. Pike, Sr., of Concord, grandmother of the bridegroom, represent ed the mother of the bride who could not at tend. The bride wore a formal gown of candlelight peau de-soie and crepe. The empire bodice was crepe; the- high oriental neckline was satin peau-de-soie. Long full sleeves were gathered into a wide satin cuff adorned with tiny covered bridal buttons. The A-line skirt was of matching peau-de-soie. A narrow satin band accent ed the high rise bodice where a tiny bow was at tached in front. The headpiece featured a large double bow of candlelight satin peau-de-soie and an elbow-length veil of can dlelight bridal illusion. The bride carried a white orchid bouquet with step hanotis. Mrs. Joseph Pike Mitch ener of New Orleans at tended the bride as matron of honor and only attend ant. Mrs. Carole Nance was mistress of ceremony. Mrs. J. W. Pike, Sr., of Concord wore a dior-blue gown with silver brocaded coat and cymbidium or chid corsage. Mrs. John A. Mitchener, Jr., wore a chanel-blue gown with gold sequin bodice. She, too, carried a cymbidium corsage. The reception was held at St. Paul’s Parish House, where decorations consist ed of magnolia leaves, candlelight and white poin settas. The four-tiered wedding cake topped with bells was served by Mrs. Faye Bindeman The punch was DECEMBER 25. IMS served by Mrs. Edith Cox and Mrs. Irene Patten. For the wedding trip the bride changed to a white hand-knitted suit with brown accessories topped with an orchid from her corsage. The couple will reside at West Queen Street in Edenton. The bride was educated at Marie Curie Lycee, Sai gon. Subsequently she completed proficiency ex aminations from Cam bridge and the University of Michigan. She taught French and English for eight years at Les Oiseaux and The London School, Saigon. The bridegroom gradu ated from the University of North Carolina at Cha pel Hill in 1963. In 1967 he completed the graduate B.D. degree from Yale University. Subsequently he served as a pharmacist with the U. S. Army. A Sunday luncheon for the bridal couple was hosted by Mrs. R. Elton Forehand, Jr., and by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Brit ton. A Sunday evening cock tail-buffet was given by Dr. and Mrs. Roland H. Vaughan and by Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Wood, Jr. The wedding luncheon Monday was provided by the bridegroom’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph William Pike, Jr., of Con cord. DAPHNE RENE BOND Mr. and Mrs. Waverly Bond announce the birth of a daughter, Daphne Rene, December 7 in Bel haven Hospital. Herald Society News Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Gard will entertain Mr. and Mrs. J. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Wil liam Daniel Holmes, Jr. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Nathaniel Oakland Austin of Winston-Salem, and the late Mr. Austin and Mrs. William Daniel Holmes, Sr., of Edenton and the late Mr. Holmes. Miss Holmes graduated from Fairfax Hall. Mr. Galloway is a grad uate of Clemson University and is an area sales man ager with the Singer Com pany-Friden Division in Atlanta, Ga. The wedding will be April 4 in St. Paul’s Epis i-copal Church. Air Force arrived from Alaska to spend the holi days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Bulls. A doctor arrived at a farmhouse to deliver a baby. He found the bed room was dimly lighted and asked the farmer to hold the lamp. After the third baby arrived, the fanner took off. “Hey, come back with that lamp,” shouted the doc tor. “Nothii.g doing,” re plied the farmer, “it’s the li gh t that’s attracting them." Larry Smith of the Uni versity of North Carolina at Raleigh, is home for the Christmas holidays. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adrain Smith.
