Phillips, ! seconded by David 'Bateman ! and duly carried that the i chairman be authorized to purchase furniture as neces ' sary for tax collector's office and register of deeds office. : C. A. Phillips gave a report on meeting of District Health Department. Miss Hul d a Wood and Mrs. 'Lola Bass of the local health office were called in to answer some questions. A lengthy dis cussion was held. On motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by C. M. Ev ans and unanimously carried requesting Chairman Bond to write a strong letter to Ron ald Scott, State Planning Of ficer of Raleigh, opposing any changes in our ten county area plan. Members of the Rescue Squad appeared before the Commissioners. Bob Roberson was spokesman. He reported to the Board that they were, badly in need of a new am bulance and a place to house the ambulance. He said without newer equipment the unit could not continue to provide ambulance service in the county. The Commissioners praised the Rescue Squad for their unselfish services to the county. The chairman ap pointed C. A. Phillips and J. Clarence Leary to work with Mr. Roberson and members of the 'Rescue Squad in se- Edenton, North Carolina, Thursday, February 19, 1970 curing an ambulance and a place to house the equip ment. The Commissioners asked that a resolution be drawn reaffirming their support of the U. S. 17 by-pass of Eden ton. On motion of C. A. Phil lips, seconded by J. Clarence 'Leary and duly carried that resignation of Grace E. Grif fin of County Extraterritorial Planning Board be accepted with regret. On motion of J. Clarence Leary, seconded by David T. Bateman and unanimously carried that members of the Chowan County Planning Board, George W. Lewis, Woodrow Lowe, T. D. Berry man, C. W. Overman and J. A. Webb, Jr., be reappointed for a term of three years. A notice to apply for beer license by Susie E. White, trade name “White’s Esso Sc Grocery” was approved.
