A government under law rather than under man will not con tinue to endure when there exists extensive and wide spread disrespect for its laws.” She urged that citizens show a genuine respect for law, an appreciation for those who obey it and public con tempt for those who don’t. This respect must be taught, the speaker said, "... to our children, in our schools, in our colleges and in our homes. We must de mand such respect and obe dience of others.” “Those of us who love the freedom of democracy do not care to have our lives regu lated by some dictator,” she said, adding "if we do not want dictators, we must im pose upon ourselves discip line to bring order out of so cial chaos.” Mrs. Beulah Boswell, presi dent, was mistress of cere monies for the banquet. MOTTS GUEST SPEAKER FOR 4-HERS Center Hill 4-H Club met Monday night, February 16, at the Center Hill Commun ity Building. Joe Roberts, vice presi dent, presided and called the meeting to order by reading the 4-H pledge. Lovette Monds led in the pledge of allegiance, which was fol lowed by prayer. Rev. M. B. Motts was present and talked to the children on “Drugs.” The 4-H’ers were interested in planning a program for adults and children soon on the drug problem. Joe Roberts showed a film on the Caswell Training Cen ter in Kinston and plans made for the Heart Fund drive on Sunday, February 22. Tentative plans were also made for a supper for benefit of the Edenton-Chowan Res cue Squad. Bankers Asso ciation. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Wright and daughter of Greenville spent a few days here visit ing relatives. Mrs. Marvin Ashley and daughters, Lisa and Paula, spent Sunday in Plymouth visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Benson and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ashley spent Saturday in Greenville attending the an nual meeting of Group I of N. C. Bankers Association. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Dixon, Jr., spent last week in Flori da and attended the Daytona races. Mrs. Morris Griffin re turned Sunday from a tour of the Hawaiian Islands. The tour was sponsored by the Woman’s Clubs of North Ca rolina. Mrs. Griffin left Saturday, February 7 and returned Sunday morning, February 22. The round trip was by United Airlines. Talk Scheduled By Mr. Sexton Rev. Kenneth Sexton, pas tor of First Methodist Church in Roseboro, will be the guest minister for the third in a series of Lenten revival services at Edenton Metho dist Church Sunday evening. Mr. Sexton is very active in the North Carolina Con ference and is a former pas tor of First Methodist Church in Bethel. Rev. E. L. Earnhardt, pas tor, issues a cordial invitation to people from throughout the community to attend the ser vice. The nursery will be operated for the convenience of parents with small child ren.
