C., i given by the Georgia Federa tion of Music Clubs which had its junior division state meeting in Atlinta March 6 and 7. Robert, who is 11 years old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. McDuffie, 772 Malwood Drive, Macon, Ga. Mrs. McDuffie is the former Susan Thigpen of Edenton. He is a violin student of T. Henrick Schwarzenberger. He began performing publicly when he was seven and is the youngest student ever to have won this scholarship, according to Georgia Federa tion officials. He has been invited to per form at the State Senior Convention Scholarship lunch eon to be held in Atlanta on April 3. Robert is a member of the Macon-Wesleyan String Or chestra under the direction of Walter Steinhaus, a member of the Mozart Music Club and is an avid golf and baseball player. Arthur Chappell made considerable improvements to the second floor of Chappell’s Recreation Parlor on Broad Street for the purpose of pro viding a place to hold private parties and dances. Local fishermen were in vited to attend a bait casting tournament in the Colerain High School gymnasium. Suit was filed in Chowan Superior Court by Mrs. Gladys Smith against the Virginia-Carolina Joint Stock Land Bank in which she asked damages in the amount of $5,000. The suit was the result of an accident at the intersection of Oakum and Queen Streets, when she was struck by a car owned by the defendant. About 300 people jammed in the J. H. Over 50 farmers were guests of the Edenton Rotary Club when the Rotarians ob served “Farmers’ Night.” W. Kerr Scott, Commissioner of Agriculture, was the guest speaker. Members of the T. E. L. Class of Edenton Baptist Church elected Mrs. B. F. Francis president. 20 YEARS AGO At a meeting of the Cho wan Hospital Auxiliary, Marion A. Ham, architect for the new Chowan Hospital, reported that the hospital was 80 per cent complete. Edenton Lions Club spon sored a new club at Cole rain with 19 members en rolled. W. E. White was elected president. Congressman Herbert C. Bonner announced that he would not ask for appropria tions at a session of Congress for the artificial propagation of shad at the Edenton hatch ery. The announcement fol lowed an investigation into such a program-and a memo randum from the Fish and Wildlife Service which deem ed artificial propagation of shad inadvisable at that time. Joe Wheeler, former star of the Edenton Colonials, signed a contract to play with New Bern in the Coastal Plain League. Capt. RoDert L. Pratt, vet eran member of the Edenton Police Department, was tak en to the veterans’ hospital at Kecoughtan as the result of a heart attack. Hearings were begun in the Chowan Court House in a suit brought by the U. S.
