OUR TRIP TO ELIZABETH
CITY
By Heid* Wood
Tuesday, March 24, the
sixth, seventh and eighth
grades of the Chowan Aca
demy went on a field trip to
Christ Church in Elizabeth
City.
One reason we went was
because we have beer study
ing Gothic architecture and
this church was built with
that style of architecture.
The other reason we went
was to see some stained glass
windows that have pictures in
them which tell the story of
the life of Christ.
There were many different
symbols in the church, such
as the dove, which stood for
the Holy Spirit, and an up
side down torch which sym
bolized mourning.
All around the church
there were symbols for the
Holy Trinity. Some of them
were: three steps in a row,
three windows over a bal
cony in front of the church
and many symbols in the
stained glass windows, such
as Christ holding up three
, fingers.
On the way back some of
lus stopped at Hardee’s to get
a drink and a few people got
! something to eat.
I I enjoyed the whole trip
, very much and 'l’m cure
| everyone else did.
