THOMPSON County Extension Chairman Many farmers that are be ginning to plant corn and other crops and arc thinking about spraying need to spend ■ a little while getting their sprayers cleaned up in order : to properly spray the ma terial. ■lt is not unusual to sec spots in fields a year after the material was applied that will not grow certain crops ] because the operator might! have stopped down the row to clean out nozzles or his sprayer equipment. We arc suggesting that sprayers be mounted on the tractor and clean water flushed through the entire system, making sure all the strainers arc clean, including the intake strainer which has caused problems in many spray rigs. Use an old toothbrush or something similar to clean the screens and nozzles ori fice. Do not use your pock etknife or wire or nails to do this. Then check the nozzles to be sure that the patterns are like you want them, and that there arc no leaks in any c.f the fittings. Adjust the pressure regulator and make sure this is working prop erly. To calibrate the sprayer, test it under field conditions and one of the best ways is to spray a measured acre and measure the amount of ma terial that is required to fill the tank back up. This will give you the amount of ma terial you spray to the acre. Another way is by using a quart jar method. You do this by measuring a certain number of feet, driving this distance, timing it and then 1 QUINN FURNITURE COMPANY’S BEDROOM SPECIALS!
