ticipated.
Parents and friends of
Edenton Boy Scouts met to
discuss plans to put local
Scouts on a sound financial
basis. The idea was ad
vanced to secure from 50 to
100 people who would contri
bute 50 cents per month to
ward the Scouts. Other ideas
advanced to raise money was
a rock muddle, fiddlers’ con
vention and square dances.
Chowan County officials
were hosts to members of the
boards of election in 12 sur
rounding counties as well as
chairmen of the executive
committee in these counties,
to explain changes in the
election laws made by the
1930 General Assembly. Those
who spoke on the various
phases of the new election
laws were W. A. Lucas, chair-
man of the State Board of
Elections and Gregg Cherry,
former speaker of the House
of Representatives.
Chowan Tribe of Red Men
began an attendance and
membership drive with C. H.
Barber and Jesse Smith as
captains of the two sides.
Following his return from
Charlotte, Jimmy Earnhardt,
manager of Taylor Theater,
announced that ‘Gone With
the Wind” would appear at
the theater for a four-day
showing.
Mrs. Lula G. Byrum, 72,
died at the home of her son,
Thomas Byrum, after an ill
ness of five weeks.
A. E. Mason, 78, died at his
home here following a period
of ill health of about a year.
Plans were in the making
for staging a concert in Eden
ton by the Eastern All Star
Band with 100 members par
ticipating, coming from Eden
ton, Washington, Columbia,
Creswell, Plymouth, Colerain,
Pasquotank County, Roberson
ville, Greenville, Tarboro,
■ Roanoke Rapids and Ahoskie.
A scheduled oyster roast
by the Edenton Rotary Club
was forced to be called off

Mrs. Dixie Harrell Bunch,
67, died in a Goldsboro hos
pital Friday following an ex
tended illness.
Mrs. Bunch was bom in
Chowan County on Septem
■ ber 13, 1902, daughter of
Isaac D. and Lena Ashley
, Harrell. Her marriage was
to Clarence Bunch.

Hill, Lindsey, Alvin, Carlton,
Edward and Thurrell Bunch,
all of Edenton; one daughter,

She was a member of
Rocky Hock Baptist Church,
where funeral services were
held at 2 P. M. Monday with
Rev. Meredith Garrett in
charge. Burial was in Beaver
Hill Cemetery.
