OPEN ’TIL 8:30 FRIDAY NIGHTS TOTE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, NORTH CAROUNA, THURSDAY, APRIL IC, 197*. Letters To The Editor April 6, 1970. Dear Sir: iPcrhnps I should introduce myself. My name is Blanche Lakish. I write letters to our servicemen. I would like to continue my letter writing, but this is my problem. 1 am running out of names and addresses, and wonder if you would be so kind and can give me a helping hand? The “hand” 1 ask for is a list of names of our service men. To date, 5,990 men in uniform serving on foreign fronts have received personal letters from me. I’ve drained our area and now 1 am combing all parts of the country for others. The old saying is true, “The whole world is dying ifor a little bit of love. So let’s go out of our way to show some one that we care. You would be surprised at the number of people who deep down in side are saying “if only someone loved me.” “What we need in the Unit ed States of America” is more (love) and (wisdom) and (co operation) toward one an other. I am sending you a couple of articles that our newspaper put in the paper of what I am doing and this will also (verify) of who I am. May I please have my articles back? It’s the only one I have. Thanks. Sir, if you cannot be of any help to me, will you please send my letter to your news paper? To my knowledge they send the paper to the: fellows and they have the address. And if the editor wishes to, he has my per mission tc write an article in his paper of what 1 aim do ing. And if he docs, may I please have a copy sent to me? I would appreciate it very much, sir. May God bless you and yours always. And please tell everyone to please try to be a little kinder to one an- Mobile Homes More Prominent RALElGH—Recognizing mo bile homes as increasingly prominent in both rural and urban areas, Agriculture Com missioner James A. Graham has announced that he has appointed Milton Converse to serve owners and renters of the mobile units in an ad visory capacity. “This is not an additional position in the departments'” Graham emphasized. “In his capacity as liquefied petro leum gas inspector, Converse enters thousands of these homes annually. The work entails not only checking for safety the L. P. gas tanks and connections to the units, but also gas appliances in the homes. In the course of his work he has become familiar with many of the questions and problems of the resi dents and is eminently quali fied to advise them which 'divisions of state or local governments can help them with solutions or clarify" reg ulatory requirements.” “This is certainly net true in the N. C. Department of Agriculture,” he said. “Every one of its many services are as available to mobile home occupants as to every other urban or rural citizen of the state. Such services include soil tests and inspection of nursery stock, as well as in spection and registration of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, foods, drugs and cosmetics, gasoline and oil, weights and measures, and numerous oth ers in addition to liquefied petroleum gases. "However, I consider the mobile home trend to he,, of sufficient importance aN magnitude to warrant design nating a member of my staff to specialize in service to mobile home occupants. other. We sure need it more nbw than ever before in the United Stales of America. With all this (misunderstand ing) throughout the world. I am just a housewife and nriothcr with two sons. Our younger son went into the service six months ago. May God bless him, too. I work iij a gift shop to help pay for the postage. I am trying tO put any “talents” and I use that term (loosely) to use by writing letters to our Gls. I do not plan to spent the rest of my life just doing nothing. | One of the fellows that I wrote to came over from Be rea, Ky., and the governor of Berea, Ky., made us honorable Kentucky Colonels. 1 was very proud to receive such an honor. The mayor of Ash land, Ky., sent me a (key) to tl|e city of Ashland, Ky. 'lt was the first (key) that I ever did receive. Thanks to the mayor of Ashland, Ky. : Sir, do you happen to have a, '(key) to your beautiful city? I sure would like to get some more (keys) to add to my collection. 'Huntley and Brinkley an nounced over the TV of what I , a>m doing. Gosh! I sure was surprised to hear about that. My hobbies are collect ing rock specious, crystals,. coins, stamps. I want to j thank you again, sir, and I j wish you the very best al-; ways. And let’s see what we can do for our country, not what our country can do for us. Let’s see it we can make 1970 a much better year than in 1969. I know wc can achieve this (goal) if all of the folks would cooperate. So please pass the word around. Sincerely yours. BLANCHE LAKISH.
