JERRY PEELE, Library Week Committee Chairman. MY FAVORITE BOCK Boys and girls in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades at Chowan High School like to read good books. With this in mind, the Chowan High School Library Club Com mittee fer National Library Week gave these students an opportunity to share their reading experiences during National Library Week. All students in school were in vited to submit entries for a “My Favorite Book” contest. Three Senior Library Club members, Rhonda Bunch, j Wanda Ward and Dorothy | White, were selected to ohoose the five best entries. It was announced that the I five students submitting the winning entries would receive one dollar each. These are the entries con sidered by the committee to be the five best, along with three that they decided should have honorable mention. My favorite book is Misty by Marguerite Henry. Tne book informed me that horses can swim in water that is over their head::. I never knew this before. There were so many things I learned about horses. Each time I see a horse now, I realize what he and his trainer would have to go through before the horse could become a riding horse. —Sherry Harrell, sth Grad.; 1 like Sea Star by Marguer ite Henry of all the books I have read. I liked it because it told about a boy and girl that raised a wild pony into a tame one. It meant more to me be cause they were going to sell the pony and give the money to their Cousin Clarence so he could go to schocl and learn to be a minister. It made me happy to read a book that Icld about people helping each other. —Sue Mosley, sth Grade My Daughter, Nicola, is the name of my favorite book. I like this book because you never want to put it down, you always want to read what is going to happen next. Another reason I like this book is that it is full of ad venture, excitement, happiness and sadness. To me this book says two things that a person can do: if you really want to do something and put your mind to it, you can SERVICES AVAILABLE Certified Watch Makers Clock Repairs Jewelry Repair Diamond Mounting Baby Shoes Bronzed, Silvered Razor Serviee Silver Replating Refinishing Engraving Wedding Invitations G. T. Davis & Company Jewelers ■DENTON, N. C. Nrt T* Ihjkr nmfci do anything, and you don’t have to prove anything for someone to really love you. Debra Boswell, 7th Grade Os all the books I’ve read' my favorite one was Benja min Franklin. It was so in teresting to read how a boy who was very poor grew up to be a very smart and wise man. Although he only went to school a few years, Mr. Franklin became an American leader. I do not wish to be come an American leader be cause I don’t like politics, and to me it’s a chance of getting your head blown off. —Carroll Perry, sth Grade Patricia Crosses Town is my favorite choice of books because the same thing has happened to me. It has the same feelings that I do about white schools. This main statement reminds me of the first day of school, “They were all white.” When Pat first saw them, right then she wanted to go back to the old school. There were many days when I wanted to go back to the other school. They will see how hard it was on us. Pat tells how hard it was on her. —Sheila Holley, 6th Grade Honorable Mention Mark Twain’s The Adven tures of Tom Sawyer is my favorite book. I like it be cause it’s about a boy about my age. He has good times and bad times like I do. He gets into too much trouble, but is clever enough to get out each time. —Bradley Ward, sth Grade E. B. White’s Stuart Little is my favorite book. I liked the book because the author made a mouse that acted like a normal person. The mouse wore clothes, met girls, was shipwrecked, owned a bird, and did all these things like a real boy would do. —Susan Bass, sth Grade My Side of the Mountain is my favorite book. The rea-1 son for my liking this book I is that the boy in *he story I is doing the things I’ve al-1 ways wanted to do. This is I an exciting book. It is lull | of excitement and thri'ls of I the outdoors. —Clay Madry, 6th Grade I TyCer Just Received!
